Hello from a newbie
Hi and greetings from the UK from a Newbie!
I've been lurking on this forum for a while and found it really supportive so thought I'd say hello.
To introduce myself I'm a 37 year old female who noticed some lumps and bumps on her hands two years ago. I used to do a lot of kayaking so thought it was connected. However two years on I've had surgery to release a 60 degree contraction in my left hand and developed numerous nodules in that hand and a 45 degree contraction in the MCP joint of my little finger in my right hand.
I've been reading a lot about RT on this forum and am going to bug my doctor this week about it and if not look at going to Germany.
My question is does RT work after surgery in my left hand and am I worth having surgery on my right before the therapy as I've read it only works in the early stages of the disease.

Re: Hello from a newbie
What therapy? You said, "the therapy as I've read it only works in the early stages of the disease". I haven't heard of any therapy that works in the early stages of Dupuytren's.

Re: Hello from a newbie
Callie, I think Ermintrude is talking about Radiotherapy which is effective on early stages of the disease.
Ermintrude. Welcome to the forum and site. Radiotherapy is effective in a lot of cases for early stages of the disease when it is active - nodules growing, cords forming, tingling, aches, soreness, and so on. It is typically used before any degree of contraction. However, some people have reported on here that they have had RT after surgery to straighten fingers with some degree of success. Try a search or browse through to see if you can find those examples.
