I've had 3 hand operations

Thought you would be interested to know that I am of Irish, English and French heritage, and recently have been told early Ireland was partially settled by Vikings...which fits the Scandinavian heritage most frequently sited as being particularly vunerable to Dupuytren's disease. As a concert pianist, it has made my life quite difficult in that respect.
a year ago summer was the first operation on the left hand, three fingers from middle to little. The 5th finger was the worst bent. My brace broke after using it nitely for two months beyond what the doctor requested. As I live in the desert during the winter, I simply postponed doing anything about the brace. By Spring the last two fingers were again bent. By this recent summer, the right hand 4th (ring) finger had to be operated on and I requested a double strength splint which I use every nite since the operation mid-July. By morning the finger is pretty straight but I do therapy every day for both hands. Mean while, in early October the little finger of the left hand was re-operated on. I have a day splint for it as well as a hand encompassing splint for use at nite. It is essential to keep splints on duriing the nite as that keeps reminding the fingers and their nerves to remain straight. The most important thing is to keep exercising. I practice the piano nearly daily...finger work is OK, it is the stretching of chords and octaves which are difficult.
