Similar conditions

I do not know if I have this condition so I would like to know if there are other conditions that can be confused with it, or if "non traditional" symptoms exist. I have a nodule about half the size of a pea under my palm skin but it is about an inch below the base of my middle finger. From what I have read, the ring or little finger are almost always the initial site. This nodule has been growing for several weeks and sometimes is vaguely painful but it has not caused any other problems except that it is worrisome. I have an appt. with a hand specialist but it is not for many days. A year or so ago I "stoved" my middle finger by accidentally poking it straight into the interior of my car as I was cleaning it. That made the second knuckle swell by about 25% and caused that finger to bend slightly also at the first knuckle. Sorry if I seem to be asking for a free diagnosis but I hope someone can help. After I go to the doc I will report back his findings/opinion. Thanks

Re: Similar conditions

Very good question! We used to have a paragraph on our web site exactly on what your are looking for but it got lost in a recent reorganisation of our web site. I now put it back, it's on http://www.dupuytren-online.info/dupuytr..._therapies.html under "First exclude other causes!".

You are absolutely right that not every nodule on the hand is due to Dupuytren's disease and it is very important to have it properly diagnosed by a doctor. If what you have is Dupuytren's a few weeks won't make a difference. Dupuytren's usually develops quite slowly.

Re: Similar conditions

Thank you. I read the article and now I will go looking for the emedicine article. Do you happen to have a link to that? Thanks.

Re: Similar conditions

The link is on our web site but in this respect it doesn't tell more than our page.
