Curious

This might sound stupid but i have read a lot about DD and what i am finding is they tell what's going on inside of your hand but they never mention what could of caused this disease- you know like a health problem. Sort of like a immune problem or something going on inside of your body with one of your organs. Diabetes, Epstein -barr virus,Hep C, Arthritis etc. etc. I think you get the picture. I know there is no cure but someone out there must know what causes this. If you have something -then something caused it . Right? Just call me stupid and curious because i'm sick of this hand problem. I have checked in both sides of family as far back as i can go and no one that i know had this problem. What am i the only one in my family. I have enough health problems without this added to my list. I did have radiation a little over 4 months ago and glad i did it because as of now nothing is activating but my hands will always have this disease in them and they will never be the same. I would love someone to find a cure for this awful disease.I think we have suffered enough. Don't you? Guess i'm done with my bitch session. Thanks for listening.

Re: Curious

Yeah, i hear you. Sometimes you just have to get if off your chest. I have had it for ten years now in both hands without contracture, so im lucky so far. But, you still just cant completely forget about it. Its there, not going away, and nobody knows what causes it. My mind loves to understand why something happens, so for me its more about understanding the whole disease and that is why im on here everyday. I know it could be worse, but you still cant help and wonder what the heck. Maybe us patients should get together for a reunion and brainstorm(LOL), but that might be scary especially since i suffer social anxiety.

Re: Curious

If we all met, what if you just held your hands, palms out, over your face? We would all be just talking about hands and feet anyway. We'd just want to see your hands. Would that take care of the social anxiety? Oh, but we'd want you to look at our hands, too. There would be the social interaction.

Re: Curious

I couldn't agree with you girls more! I have a twin sister( not identical), a granny who lived to be 101, parents in their 80's, etc. NO ONE has this but me. I have checked with aunts, half sisters and brothers, everyone and I am the only one. No Viking ancestry, no drinking, just doesnt make sense. But Cindy, I have had two other very weird diseases happen in the last three years, Polymyalgia Rheumatica and Grover's Disease, which again, no one in my family has, so I personally definitely believe in my case there is something wrong with my immune system and hopefully not worse!

Like everyone says it definitely could be worse, but you do have to wonder what is next?

Re: Curious

I also have had some strange health problems. I have Epstein-Barr Virus and Oral Lichen Planus that no one knows how to take care of. I'm always trying to find a connection with this hand disease and never come up with anything. All of this came into my life about 6 years ago with no treatment and no cure. Unless you want to take Kenalog injections. No thanks tried that what a mistake. And i do like the idea meeting at airport holding hands in front of face so that way we know who to look for. Thats a good one Flojo. I enjoyed that.

Re: Curious

No Viking history would apply if you are of African decent or Asia but not for anyone with ancestors from Europe. Some people are predisposed to cancers, diabetes, MS, arthritis, and other afflictions and it is often not based on anything they did other than making a bad choice of parents.

Dupuytren's is a significant inconvenience but is is not life threatening so no reason to feel persecuted by the cosmos. And thanks to this site and its founder it is now very easy to get information that is seldom available from one GP.

Re: Curious

Yes I have Alopecia Universalis, Vitaligo, and had autoimmune reabsorption in a tooth. I didn't know you could DO autoimmune in a tooth. But It could have been something important like a kidney so I'm OK with that
