Re: General and mental advice needed: 40y female newly diagnosed

I have a another appointment later this week: This prof is familiar with RT is not impressed with results for dupuytren but is currently conducting a study for ledderhose.
For me he seems to be unbiased source of information about rt, so hopefully I can plan a strategy after this.

I have tightening of the thumb ligament(s), but no nodule. Easily manageable so it's fine for now.

I've four flattish nodules, I started calling them "placques".
Now these are below the middle, ring (2 in a row) and pinky. The three corresponding "cords" are also flattish but are not tendons (imho) because it textures feels different to touch and looks different a well. Hand surgeon claims that the cords are tendons. Okay.

Now the nodules/placques seem to connect/bridge. It's this becoming a bigger plaque. Not so noticeable which looks like regression (because less clearly defined).
It looks like halting or regression, but I'm not sure it is.

And becoming more and more visible: the invisible tightness I've only been feeling for months is now starting to show as well. The skin of my hand palm is losing texture. It's shiny, less lines and creases. General tightness, even a y shape at the wrist. Pain is returning. The skin looks ... unreal at times.
It's only the palm side and near the sides of the palm. Dorsal side, the skin is normal.

Anyone familiar with this "bridging" or shiny skin?

A photo might help. Have you been applying any topical treatment? Any swelling?

I have been applying Voltaren 2 months ago, but after a while it went away so I quit.
No swelling, if more 'slinking'.

About the picture, It tried to match lighting/angle/posture per row

    • top row, relaxed hand: notice the difference in small wrinkles
    • middle row, different lighting, a bit more stretched (back)
    • bottom row, I tried 'open fist' fingertips touching palm, notice the almost torque like skin, also near the wrist. (right wrist, pinky side) not sure why index finger is going rogue, its just misbehaving here, its fine.

Re: General and mental advice needed: 40y female newly diagnosed

IANAD, but FWIW I see more swelling, or fat, or muscle or DD development in the RH, which might explain the smoother skin, and might not. I have no idea what it means for you. My hands side by side are different too. Did you start the photo log before or after your appointment with ProfS, and if so has your DD nodules, cords moved on, with other accompanying symptoms? I try not to obsess over my hands, and attempt to ignore daily changes, but it’s difficult since I play piano and I’m soon aware of any aches, tightness, stiffness etc and so my own attempts at ignoring fail. This reveals a regularity, with no predictable pattern, of constant change.

Yes I have a photo log, (although the ones I posted here seems to have dissappeared.) I might make an overview late.
I can image the piano frustration, tightness and stiffness for me is noticable but it does actualle hinder me much. I am just relieved the pain has subsided for last weeks, although its been flairing up last couple of days.

I stress less about it, its more the appointment tomorrow triggered this post.

I am just very glad I don't see any signs of contracting yet.
