Getting radiotherapy in NYC
I had radiotherapy today in Manhattan and if anyone is interested, I have the doctor's name and address.
Treating Dupuytrens is new to this radiation oncologist, but he is a colleague of Dr. Cuttino in Virginia and he is excited to help people with this disease. After I contacted him he got in touch with Dr. Cuttino, and through e-mails, received specific information about how the procedure is done.
I found him to be a very bright and caring doctor. When I first consulted with him, he was wary about applying his radiology expertise to Dupuytrens, but after looking at the published reports about it, he agreed that radiotherapy for this disease showed promise. He said at the outset that he will be doing long term follow up with me, to discern how the treatment fares over time.
After my first treatment today, he agreed to give his name and number as he is already getting other calls from people who are calling the only US contact person listed on this website, Dr. Cuttino.

Isn't it amazing that these Dr's aren't aware of this treatment?
So little is really known about this disease and it seems that a lot of people don't get the treatment that they need.
Anyway, I had the series of treatments from Dr Cuttino and although I can't tell a lot of improvement yet, it hasn't progressed either.

Spider,
I agree... it was only a stroke of luck that I came across this website with it's info about radiation
and Dupuytrens. Neither of the doctors I consulted said anything about it!
If you don't mind me asking, how long ago did you have your treatment?

We did 2 rounds of 7 treatments. I just finished the 2nd round 2weeks ago.
I try to feel for any softening, but I can't anything yet. I did a lot of driving yesterday and that makes the hands hurt.

Size reduction is a body reaction that takes time. It will probably take a couple of months until the nodule reduces in size or gets softer. The immediate effect might be a slowing down of the growth, in favourable cases stopping further growth and eventually reducing the size.

I was just diagnosed with Dupuyten and visited with Dr. Rescigno this week. I am planning to begin the radiation treatment in early September with him. Please let me know any side effects you have experienced.

Neil,
Three zaps from the radiation machine and four to go... no side effects at all. I think it is my imagination, but
my hand seems to feel a little better. I will let you know if there are any weird things going on with it
after the treatments are all done.
