Looking for a NA doc

I'm looking for a doc for NA because it's that time again--19 months since my last NA with Dr. Eaton. I have DD in 8 fingers/16 joints. Ideally I'd like recommendations from patients who saw Dr. Eaton and have tried a new hand surgeon they are happy with. I'd be interested in the comparison between the two docs.

I note that there's a list of docs on this web site that visited Dr. Eaton but I don't think it's a list of docs who were trained by Dr. Eaton-- am I wrong? Do you think it's more important to have a doc trained by Dr. Eaton or trained in France-- or both?

Thanks for any input you can give me-- I'm not interested in any more Xiaflex, just NA.

Re: Looking for a NA doc

This just took me forever to find. Dr. Eaton's website is gone but this was a paged that you can still find by following other links. I found it! It was from this list that I found a doctor in Atlanta who does NA. I've seen her several times and am very impressed. She spent a lot of time training with Dr. Eaton and at this point has had quite a few years of doing NA. I've not had it done yet, but will soon.

Hope this helps.

Re: Looking for a NA doc

Folks:

Actually it appears that Dr. Eaton's web site is alive and well once you get into it and past:

http://www.handcenter.org/

It's all open from http://www.handcenter.org/visitors.htm and still a great resource.

Eaton has killed all the links to his site from the Home page. This is too bad because his is one of the best around in regard to NA. Perhaps Wolfgang who has good contact with Eaton can suggest he repost his links for educational purposes. He may feel that in time the static nature of a dead site would make it obsolete and make him look irresponsible (and he is incredibility professional and responsible). Perhaps with a disclaimer he might do it for a few years.

Does a better site on NA exist?

It appears that lots /most? of the research, treatment info, and other info that were originally on Dr. Eaton's website are now on the dupuytrens.org website--see the "treaments," "research," and "FAQ tabs". There's also info regarding clinical trials. The link on Dr. Eaton's website redirects to the dupuytrens.org website.

Here's another website I find useful especially for beginners (I always get the MCP and PIP joints mixed up)

http://www.eatonhand.com/hw/hw009.htm

This website is still live:
http://www.needledup.com/ but I suspect Dr. Eaton will take it down or redirect it soon.

Diane,
I had NA on both my hands by Dr. Eaton about four years ago. I just had it done again by Dr. Bourland in Memphis, Tn.

Thanks--aftersome consultation and because of my aggressive case, it's been determined that Dr. Pess is the best doc for me. Now I just have to get clearance from my hip replacement doctor-- it's always one body part or another-- because of the possibility of infection and it spreading to the hip which is a horror story. Most hip docs don't want any invasive surgery, including dental, for 1-2 years after a hip replacement.

Has anyone on the forum been to see Dr. Pess?

Edit-- Never mind, I just did a search; seems most everyone has had a positive experience with him and he was trained in France.

Re: Looking for a NA doc

I am a 65 yr old woman with a family history of Dupuytrens. I had N/A yesterday for the second time on the little finger of my right hand. Only the PIP joint is involved. I live in Colorado and there is no doctor who does N/A in the state. I have family in Arizona, so in September 2011, I found a doctor in Tuscon, a 5 hour drive from where they live. My finger straightened nicely, but within two months I could no longer wear the splint as the finger was contracting again.

Recently, I found an AZ doc only a 2 hour drive from my family and I went to see him yesterday. (May 2013) The N/A procedure was not successful and my PIP is still at 90'. He has recommended surgery, which he does using mimimally invasive techniques with only a small incision and a camera, the same way I had my gall bladder out! I had some concerns that perhaps he could have tried harder before giving up and suggesting surgery, although I know the PIP joint is difficult. The little finger on my left hand is also contracting, but is not bad yet. I also have nodules in my palm that seem to come and go, but so far no MCP contactures. I am debating on going back to the original Dr to have him try again or go ahead with surgery. I don't like what I have heard about Xiaflex and would prefer not to try it. Any thoughts or suggestions from anyone?

Re: Looking for a NA doc

Interesting. I've not read of Dupuytren's surgery done in this manner. Can you mention the doctor's name? Perhaps someone is familiar with him.

Re: Looking for a NA doc

His name is Fitzmaurice, in Phoenix. He does a lot of carpel tunnel etc using the same methods.

Re: Looking for a NA doc

Here is a doctor you could visit in Phoenix. Practiced with Dr. Eaton at one time and presented at the International Symposium on Dupuytren's a few years ago.
