My Twin Sister

I have an identical twin sister. She just recently, about 2 years ago, started to develop some nodules on one of her hands. But, it stopped at that. She has some lumps in her palm, but no cords and no contractures. Unlike me who had OS 10+ years ago and have 35 degree PIP and MCP contractures now, and looking forward to Xiaflex next month. Goddess knows I don't want to see her progress to what I'm going through. Goddess know, she doesn't want this either. So, my question.....

Should I advise her to seek out RT for her hand? Right now, she has absolutely no issues at all, and it could stay like that forever. We're both 62 years old. Should she just do nothing? I think she'd be inclined to do nothing, and I haven't even discussed it with her. But, I figured I'd ask here first.

Thanks in advance for any insight you may have. ~Diane

Re: My Twin Sister

It is a guess. I would not do anything. My father had/has what you described for over 30 years and nothing happened. He is now 95 years old. Never ever has bothered him at all. I wasn't so lucky.

Re: My Twin Sister

I agree with callie. In any case RT is pointless unless the disease is in an active phase.

Re: My Twin Sister

Thank you both!! This is what I was hoping you'd say. But, now I know that if anything progresses, she'll know where to turn. I was just worried about her. Hey!! That's what sisters do.

Re: My Twin Sister

I'd suggest that she take pictures or measure the nodules in her hand and watch for increase in size or numbers. Also watch for sensations of itchiness or crawly feelings in her palm, lessening of grip strength, and any other weird, indescribable sensations. Those would help determine if it has become active. It it becomes active, that's the time to do RT. It might be good for her to do research and become familiar with RT as a treatment and be ready to proceed if and when it becomes active.
