Needle Aponeuroopathy
Last week I visited Dr. Robert Francis in Hendersonville, NC, to have NA on my left hand. It was extremely successful and, as Dr. Francis had told me, I was back at work in 2 days. I still have to soak and stretch my hand for 2 weeks, but am pleased with the immediate results--my little finger is straight. And this was done without invasive surgery.
What I would like to know is if there is any treatment for the portion of the cord that is still in my little finger.
And, has anyone found something to slow down the process?

Re: Needle Aponeuroopathy
If your DD is still active, (growing, itchy/crawly and/or other sensations) radiation therapy will likely be effective. I had NA done 16 months ago, then RT 12 months ago. It stopped the progression of DD. No more of the constant "awareness" of stuff going on in my hand. My radiologist, Dr. T, asked questions about my symptoms to confirm that it was active. RT will release nodules and other active DD that you might not even know is going on. It will not release cords, however it seemed to reduce the tightness across my hand.

Re: Needle Aponeuroopathy
How in the world did you find him? I live on Lake Norman near Charlotte and have had several people ask about finding someone to do NA. Since I had RT in Charlotte I have not had to pursue the NA route and was not aware of anyone close by. RT was very successful and I am at around 1 year from my last RT. Ny nodule has completely disappeared, but my cord still remains though it is much, much smaller. My hand continues to improve. I have been able to grip and pull things (making the bed) without it hurting and have been able to paint, sand doors,etc.. This has happened over the last several months. It does still feel uncomfortable to make a loose fist. My cord is in my palm and extends to the middle finger. That makes my middle finger just ache when I make a loose fist.
RT appears at this time to have stopped the progression. I have had no new symptoms or growth.
Please ask your doctor if you can list him under the NA section on the sidebar for others in our area to be able to use him if needed.
Glad it worked out so well for you and if you need RT I used Dr. Crimaldi in Charlotte. He did a great job. He also might be able to refer you to someone in Asheville.
Regards,
Lori

Re: Needle Aponeuroopathy
Thanks for the input. I live in mid-VA and drove to NC for NA. There is an RV clinic in Richmond and I will give them a call on the itching and nodules.
And, I have sent info to the Dupuytren Society to post Dr. Francis' name.
