Nerve issues after fasciectomy
I had a fasciectomy under GA 2 weeks ago and due to have stitches removed in next few days.
I appreciate that all cases are different but I had nerve block numbness in my palm and finger for about 24 hours followed by very little post operative pain and have not required medication since 3 days after surgery. What I do have is loss of sensation or ultra sensitivity in parts of the unbandaged tip of the affected little finger. Bending my 4th finger under exercise also causes uncontrolled twitching. Has anybody else experienced anything similar?
AS an aside I was prescribed post operative Dihydrocodeine and Paracetamol for pain relief and thereafter endured severe constipation for several days post op (including days after ceasing the painkillers )- a likely side effect of Dihydrocodeine - and only resolved with pharmacist issued laxative. May be worth discussing use of laxatives during pain relief course with surgeon pre op.

Normal experiences after surgery. Sometimes the surgeons do not take just few minutes to discuss the issues you presented or add a handout covering post surgery issues. After my surgery had no pain meds just ice and my hand was in a small finger brace once stitches removed to keep the finger straight and therapy to improve mobility. But I did not recover the fine finger /hand motor skills prior to surgery.
But adjusted and developed other techniques for doing finger movements that are a bit tricky. Better to have an open hand and fingers that move than a fist. Swelling will continue to cause some problems ice the area and in time full recovery will come.
