Re: Plaster cast and bulky dressing

I did not get hand therapy for my surgery. I got the exercise list and got the night time splint and that was it. Surgeon said it was fine to do the therapy on my own and I liked that. I flexed my hand all during the day whever I thought about it. Later on I used a self adhesive bandage like a rubber band for about 10 minutes at a time to help me make a fist. That worked great. Eleven years later and my hand/finger is still as good as before Dupuytren's.

I used Tylenol for the very little pain that I had.

Good luck !!

Thanks Callie

Wondering how to use the bandage you mention to make a fist please?

So glad yours is good now.

Was that the first surgery on that hand?

Ah so your pain control wasn't opiate-like.

I hear these Tramadol are addictive.

Re: Plaster cast and bulky dressing

I would cut about 10 inches of the 1 1/2" elastic self adhesive bandage from the roll. I would make a fist the best I could and put this bandage around my fist like you would a rubber band. The bandage would hold my fist tight for about 10 minutes. I would do this about three times a day. It is reusable for a few days. You can tell when it is time to cut off another 10 inch strip. You will be able to tell that each week you will be able to make a better fist.

It was one of the best things I did for therapy. I also kept the wound moist 24/7 with Aveeno lotion for about two months. The lotion helped in gently massaging the would to keep scar tissue from building up. I have zero noticeable scar tissue.

Yes, that was my first surgery on a little finger that was more than 90 degrees contracted.
