Re: Recent Surgery

I had surgery 11 years ago. I did the therapy completely on my own after receiving the night splint. I can remember the key things for me was moving.stretching/flexing my hand every time I thought about it during the day. I also kept the wound moist with Aveeno lotion 24/7. This made it easier to massage the wound to make the scar tissue heal properly. It is now difficult to tell that I have had hand surgery. I used the self adhesive flexible bandage to help me make a fist, which will be one of your goals. I would cut about a 10" strip of 1 1/2" bandage and wrap fist. It was like putting a rubber band around fist. I would do this three or four times a day for about 10 minutes. The bandage would be reusable for about a week. After 11 years I have zero contracture and it would be difficult to tell that I ever had Dupuytren's in that hand. My little finger was contracted over 90 degrees prior to surgery.

Good luck with your recovery. Keep us posted.

Yes, keep us posted. Many people will profit from your experience.

What pain issues have you had so far? I had very few and nothing that a couple of Tylenol couldn't fix. My surgeon said he was always surprised when almost all people reported back that they had little pain. The surgery looks like it would hurt, but usually doesn't.

Re: Recent Surgery

So far I have been able to manage what little pain I've had with Aleve. The most pain I've had was the first time I tried bending the fingers, which was 3 days after surgery.
