RT in UK---Frustration reigns

Ask a surgeon about RT and they positively discourage it saying that it does not work and would cause problems to healing progress if surgery was required at a later date.

Doctors know nothing about it and refer you to surgeons even after they are shown NICE latest information.

Where oh where can we find somebody who knows about RT treatment of DC and a place to go for treatment that is not 100's of miles away from home?!!.

Very true and sad but maybe it will eventually improve. But where do you live?

In the US, I would say at least 95% of doctors will still say surgery is the only way. An even greater % of surgeons say surgery is the only way and that NA and RT are effective. They'll try to scare you away from either NA or RT.
Not true! We are trying to educate medical practitioners over here. We need to keep trying to change the system. It takes time and persistence by many people.

Re: RT in UK---Frustration reigns

My doctor made enquiries with local NHS hospitals including one with a specialist centre for radiotherapy but could not get anyone to provide R/T in the UK.
R/T in the UK centres specialise in Cancer treatments and Duypuytren's is at the back of any Q.
Prof. Seegenschmiedt works in a clinic where they will bring people in for a short 1 min tratment between patients regarding larger scans and procedures thus utilising the machine's time effeciently and getting these minor but non the less important tratments done.

I had to get it done in Germany, its possible to be treated in Hamburg quite quickly, you need to spend two separate weeks there, with a space of about 3 months.

Re: RT in UK---Frustration reigns

It is difficult at the moment in the UK but it will get easier with the NICE ruling and the greater availability of machines now. There is a post on here from someone having NHS treatment in Exeter and my local radiotherapy dept is considering offering treatment when more cemtres are doing it. I am having treatment with John Glees at the Parkside clinic in London It is private but there is probably little difference in price (£900 per 5 day treatment course) compared to going to Germany for treatment by the time you factor in flights, hotel costs etc.
