Re: Side-effects of radiation

Good idea, Maddie! How about sending a Word file with text & pics to us and we will put it on the "personal experiences" page? You could mail the file to the address on http://www.dupuytren-online.info/imprint.html .

... Moderators: What do you think about the idea of adding a splinting section to the "personal experiences " portion of the website? Then a few of us that have used different types of splints could post pictures of them and say how well they worked for us. It would be easier for people to find the pics that way, rather than having to search the forum threads

Re: Side-effects of radiation

flojo:
I had no side effects from RT - not even skin dryness.

The human body is able to recover from radiation exposure given time. That is why the treatments are preferably done in two batches that are 2-3 months apart to give the body time to heal.

I avoid the liquid hand soaps as they remove my natural skin oils and make a point of using a hand lotion with 10% urea. Best lotion I have found is Aqua Care. A distant second is the Eucerin lotion which does not penetrate the skin nearly as well as Aqua Care.

A mention was made that with XRT 99% of the time no other procedure will be needed. There is no factual evidence that this is the case. It depends upon the individual and how far the disease has progressed at the time of the XRT.

Cost was also mentioned an in my case my first round of treatments were done in Essen and the cost for both hands was 400 Euros. The second round of treatments were done in the USA and the cost was over $8000 and my out of pockets costs were $1700. But that is the state of capitalistic medical care in the USA.

newman:
Hi I've just had PNF or NA by Dr Meinel in Wurtzburg Germany. Dr Meinel was one of the first medicos in Germany to use PNF having learned the technique in Paris. (The French have used PNF for 50 odd years. ) Dr Meinel is also on the advisory board of the International Dupuytren Society.

Newman--
Where did you find Dr Meinel? I have been searching web sites and can't find him. Thanks,
Mike

Re: Side-effects of radiation

Dr. Meinel's address is on the German web site

http://www.dupuytren-online.de/nadelfasz...e_adressen.html

He is the last one on the German list (in 97070 Würzburg).

Re: Side-effects of radiation

Hi Mike,
Dr Meinel sees patients in Wurzburg of a Wednesday Morning and on the lst Wednesday of each month he is in Dossenheim near Heidelberg. He is in the practice with Prof. Dr STAUB who also speaks English Phone +496221 862069 www.neurochirurgie-dossenheim.de Dr Meinel has a private email meinel_a@t-online.de Should you be taking a blood thinner such as Asprin you should stop 10 days before the PNF. as a safety precaution. Wurzburg is a beautiful place to visit.

Re: Side-effects of radiation

Negative effects are issues that sometimes happens due to treatment. They might happen with radiation therapy since the high doses of radiation accustomed to kill cancer cells may also damage healthy cells in the treatment area. Negative effects will vary for each individual. Many people have numerous side effects; others have almost no. Side effects might be more serious if you also receive chemotherapy before, during, or after your radiotherapy.

Re: Side-effects of radiation

Stuart,

you might be mixing cancer treatment with RT for Dupuytren's. "Many people have numerous side effects" does not apply to treating Dupuytren's, also chemotherapy is not used for treating with Dupuytren's.

Just to ask you stuart22,

Did YOU ever receive one of those treatments you are telling us to produce negative effects ?

If YES tell us YOUR side effects ...

If NO, don't speculate and argue like everything is like YOU say ...

WE learn from each other's personal experiences and knowledge but not from speculations

Stuart 22 - Dude i think you are on the wrong site and the wrong forum. This is for hand disease not cancer. And i hope none of us ever get cancer.

Sorry for the delayed response - it's been a busy couple of weeks. I will get someone to take pics and send the materials as you suggest. Thanks!
