Re: Side-effects of radiation

This is what i paid and was posted on cost of radiation
Re: Cost of RT
I went for 10 days and each treatment lasted about 5 minutes each at the most. And i had 2 GY each day per each hand or 20GY for both hands in 10 days. My insurance was a $2000 deductable that i paid and then they paid the rest. I do know my bill was alot less than some of the quotes people on the forum talked about. My bill in total with all the office visits and radiation was $4100 give or take. Which means my ins. paid $2,100. If you have no ins. the charge would be $6,100.

Re: Side-effects of radiation

I applaud your decision to go to prof s.

The deciding factor for me is that health is number 1 priority......big time.....if all else failed and my condition got worse down the road......I could honestly believe that I had given myself statistically the best chance of holding the condition in in a no zero progression state....by going to Germany.

Prof s. Is .....

Hugely experienced in this condition.

Well set up with a great team.

Passionate about treating the disease.

And has valuable long term data on various protocols.

And he is not ripping anyone off..

He is also a pioneer in this field...

...if I had treatment with a less experienced practioner..... And it went wrong .....I would have to say I short changed myself and took a bit of a punt on my health...

Fair play to you for making a sound decision...

Re: Side-effects of radiation

Say Hi to the Prof. from the Aussie. I might get a chance to see him later this year. Great guy who cetainly has a passion for his patients. Others would not worry about this disease.

By the way, is this the address for the clinic in Germany? Which part of that would be the street name?

Strahlenzentrum Hamburg
Langenhorner Chaussee 369
22419 Hamburg

"Langenhorner Chaussee 369" is the street name and number. "Strahlenzentrum Hamburg" means Hamburg Radiation Center or something like that. (Those who speak way better German than the tiny bit I picked up on my two trips, feel free to correct me...)

Thanks, Maddie. My mom spoke excellent German - 'tis a pity I didn't pick it up from her. But she never used it except in talking to her mom, who didn't speak English.

Re: Side-effects of radiation

I admire, appreciate, respect, and honor the many fine doctors, clinics, and hospitals listed on this site. There is not just one doctor, there are many who step out against, or better to say step out ahead of, traditional medicine to provide cutting edge treatment for patients with Dupuytren's and related diseases. All whom have worked with me on my Dupuytren's are very passionate about their work with Dupuytren's and care greatly for their patients. In the medical culture of the USA, I doubt their going against "traditional treatment methods" moves them into the AMA equivalent of the Hall of Fame".

My RT and my NA treatment were successful. For me, any oncologist/radiologist who gains my confidence through their training, studying of this disease, is knowledgeable, and cares can treat my Dupuytren's. If they can pinpoint and radiate a tiny tumor in someone's brain, prostate gland, or do other intricate radiation, they can treat my Dupuytren's. I'm just saying my RT and NA worked so that says my treatment couldn't have been better. Nobody can guarantee 100% effectiveness with this weird disease I don't care who they are.

I'm not taking anything away from any other doctor, I'm just expressing my gratitude for these fine doctors - thank you Dr. T, Dr. Denkler, and Dr. Katerelos!

Re: Side-effects of radiation

I just got the rejection of my appeal to my insurance company for RT. They said that they absolutely cannot and will not pay for anything that is "Investigational or experimental". They cite that there have been no valid completed studies that support the use of RT for Dupuytren's.

That's tough but I suppose that they have a point unfortunately? If they can get out of paying they will but for NICE to approve something then it then there must be a bit more than experimental or investigational? http://www.nice.org.uk/nicemedia/live/12353/51717/51717.pdf
