Re: Specialist in Brisbane

I was the first patient for my radiologist/oncologist over four years ago now. With excellent results. As important as Dupuytren's is to us it's really simple compared to much of what these specialists are trained to do. If you can trust a physician trained to localize radiation on a tumor that can neither be seen nor palpated you can trust them with dupuytren's

Thanks Larry regrding experience, I like all others I expect will not be "rushing" into this. I believe there is much published material that if a new practitioner is interested in treating wiht RT they will do a thorough investigation and study of available material... this is what I hope will happen and certainly the due dilligence prior to commiting would be to ask someof these hard quesitons. Anway much as I love Germany (I lived there for 7 years) I think itwill be fabulous to have some local expertise down under!

Well you are going about collecting information so you can make "your own" decision the right way. There is a ton of good information on this forum, read and head all of it. We all have this dreaded disease and the type of treatment "we decide" is up to us. You have to do what is right for you and you alone. Good luck deciding how you want to proceed.

Re: Specialist in Brisbane

Hi

Can anyone provide an update on RT in Brisbane. I am a 58 yr old male who has had slowly developing nodules on both hands for about 5 years with no contractions yet. After hearing about RT and reading some recent papers I am interested in hearing about anyone who has had RT in Queensland.

Stephen

Re: Specialist in Newcastle Australia

I am a newbie to this blog and have DC in right hand pinkie with three nodules in the palm, seems slow progression, possibly stage 2. I am 54 years and male and live in Newcastle NSW Australia. i waited 3 months for an appointment with a local hand surgeon. I formed the opinion that the surgeon couldnt be bothered .... so I walked out and now have to search for a doctor that I trust and who will explain my options. I ask the following: 1) can any one recommend a doctor in Newcastle or Sydney or other capital city in Australia? 2) I will be in Paris in September: should I just skip Australia and try to see Drs Badois or Lellouche or Manet? Love this site: knowledge is power.

Provide some photos to make clear whether you need surgery or radiotherapy - for surgery France is excellent, for radiotherapy I recommend Germany as the country with the most experienced physicians / radiation therapy specialists
Use your trip to Europe anyway ...

All the best , Larry

Re: Specialist in Brisbane

I have found that Dr David Schlect from Premion Radiation Oncology based at the Wesley has RT experience in the treatment of DD. Has anyone been treated by him?

Hi alanm
I thank you for you age diclosure. I myself would not be happy to have RT. under the age of 40. Yr. on the hands. The risk factor at your age is not a factor to worry about. You mentioned that you might be off to Paris this coming year. The idea of having NA.would only apply once there is contracture. Remember that the disease is different for all of us except that recontracture will occur once you start the intervention either by surgery or needle, but to what extent nobody can tell. Why not call in and see Prof. Seegenschmiedt . He is an expert. See Germany at the same time.
You mentioned that you did not have contracture. This disease generally is slow in progression for most. In some cases the disease goes into remission for years for some patients. Should you consider seeing Prof. Seegenschmiedt you could undergo the first session of RT depending if the Prof. considers RT is an option and have the 2nd session back in Australia. Regards.

Hi Alanm
Yes its Paul M back. I had the treatment which was seven sessions only. After three months there has been little change in my condition. The lump in the palm of my hand appeared to become smaller after about two months but has recently reverted back to what I believe I recall it as being, prior to treatment. There also seems to be a slight increase in sensitivity in the adjoining area to the lump when grabbing items.Lumps in the base of my little finger (which wasn't treated) also seem to be gradually progressing. Then again, I have unfortunately become a dedicated watcher of lumps in my hand so maybe I am just a little paranoid. So, maybe still early days and hopefully more positive results are still to come.

Re: Specialist in Brisbane

Hi Guys. Alanm now trading as alanm1 due to a lost password. I tried to track down 2 so-called "progressive" hand surgeons in Brisane to see where they were coming from. One was very helpful and diligent but spent a lot of time trying to convince me not to have RT. The other one, a bit quirky but also tried to convince me of the evils of RT. I had some therapy booked with Professor S in Hamburg but my new job dictated a different travel schedule and can't do that now (Still have to get from Paris to Hamburg to fly out though). I's rtill be interested to hear aboout RT in Brisbane though if anyone has had the pleasure. Cheers
