    I have DD on my left hand, one good size nodule with cord, no contracture. I also have a new very small nodule starting next to it. But I have on my DIP joint on a finger that has a small hard spot. It is the joint just behind the fingernail and the bump is on the inside. I think it is just a little sore spot from banging it on something. It has been there about a month.

    But I was wondering if it could be DD?

    Has DD ever shown up this far towards the finger tip?

    Yes Joe, it is possible to have Dups in the distal joint, though it is fairly rare. I have it in the distal joint and it eventually contracted 60 degrees or so. It started as a small bump on the outside of the finger . This was not the Boutoniere's condition in which the joint bends the wrong way, but a downward contraction like other joints do. But hopefully yours is just a small injury from something else. My surgeon said that in 30 years he had seen only two other such distal contractures in the USA. many more in Scotland.

    Interesting. I have new nodules on the outside of my PCP joint on the index and middle fingers of my left hand where I've just recently experienced nodules in my palm. I was in for a physical and asked my physician if it could possibly be DD and she said "no." Sounds like she was wrong. I'm the only person in my family, female with 3 younger brothers and lots of other relatives to have DD. My mother was born in Scotland. I have an appointment soon for a consult w/Dr. Denkler about my right hand and will ask about this.

    That little bump on my DIP seems to have gone away. Whew!

    Now I only have the stuff on the palm to deal with!
