Surgery in NZ

Having just had my second op I thought I should register and offer my experience in return for the valuable info I've learnt from this site.
My left little finger was first ... And misdiagnosed by a local plastic surgeon I won't name. His ops didn't achieve much, two of them over about a 5year period. I was in my mid forties then. The finger got worse and signs started to appear on my right little finger.
I sought out a better doctor finding chris Taylor in Auckland who did a brilliant job on the left littlely about 9months ago. He took a skin graft from the upper groin but that patch aside it looks and operates just like a proper little finger, no longer at 90 degrees to my palm. Minimal scaring, full movement etc. this boded well for an op on my right littlely two weeks ago.

So far so good. Stitches out after a week and first hand therapy visit. The staff there fighting to have "me" as the scar is clean, finger straight and already just about makes a proper fist again.

I've been very fortunate I think, surgery has had no downside that I can see and with the grafts hopefully delayed a repeat for as long as possible. Nice to be able to clap again.

Cheers

Re: Surgery in NZ

Great to hear. I am 11 years since my surgery and little finger is still as good as before Dupuytren's. As you point out, it is very important to find a good surgeon.
