this sucks

I've had 3 Zplasty surguries NA once and cortizon shots and yep it's back again. i'm starting to loose feeling in my pinky on one hand and can't open my thumb on my other hand and am feeling like going under the knife again is my only option. This sucks recovery is long and being that both hands are effected it means it's twice as long.
Well just venting found the site this morning good luck to all.

Re: this sucks..Yes it does.

terry,

It's unfortunate enough to have this disease, then there are those who have a far more aggressive case than others. I'm sorry to hear you may be one of those cases.

How much faster did the NA allow for recurrence than the Open Surgery (OS)? Since you are leaning toward another OS and all the issues with recovery that that entails, I assume NA was not that helpful. And out of curiosity, how did you come to hear about NA in the first place? Did your surgeon suggest it?

you bet it does

I've had surgery on both hands and yes it's rough. And my left thumb is now getting into trouble.

My advice at this point is not to have more surgery, period. Better treatments are coming - NA will improve and expand, Xiaflex is just around the corner, and there may be others. A few years from now we could be thanking ourselves for leaving those possibilities open instead of locking ourselves in with more scar tissue.

We can't fix this problem right now, we have to 'manage' it.

Re: this sucks

The NA worked good i had it done on my right thumb it was the first for the doctor he had never done a thumb but what did i have to lose .I gained a lot of extra movement but but i have lost what i gained and the DC nodules are from my palm to the first joint and from my index finger to my thumb. It was really hard to break the cords i actually broke a bunch about 3 days after the NA with constant stetching. it lasted about 2 1/2 yrs but was not ever fully mobile just better than i had. Found out about NA from reading there used to be another DC forum but lost the addy when i changed putters. DR Gary Pess did the NA in NJ and the cortizone shot in a nodule on my left btwn index and thumb which has been a great sucsess. Had the ZP on my whole left hand inculding my thumb but the pinky is in bad shape again and am loosing feeling in it.
The best corecteve was my second surgery on my right hand they took a skin grapht from my inner wrist and made 2 patches one in the palm one in the pinky haven't had any problemn but since then it is now in my right thumb.
My father has it bad and out of 3 boys i'm the only one that got it but i've had it since i was 15 noticabley am now 46.
I will try the NA on my left hand but i don't think it will do much this time for my right.
