Xiaflex multi cord study is over
I went for my 61-day, last visit for the Xiaflex study yesterday. As I told my docs, I don't think the Xiaflex was a resounding success, although it certainly improved my condition immensely. My MP is at 0 degrees, perfect, but my PIP is at 10-15 degrees. I asked them if, through exercises, that would improve? They both stated that it is what it is. It's the best it's going to get without an additional dose. I can certainly live with this as it is, but before not so much. In that respect, it was successful. However, they both stressed that if I see any increase in the contracture I should not wait till it progresses again to 35 degrees. I should go right in and get that dose. I suspect I'll be doing that after the summer.
In conclusion, I'm actually very happy with Xiaflex. I think it's a good alternative to surgery, and would recommend anyone who qualifies to give it a go. Just be sure you get a good experienced doc to administer it. My doc was great. ~Diane

Re: Xiaflex multi cord study is over
Having had Open Surgery and NA for two different PIP joints I can tell you that on both occasions I was told to have a very low expectation of achieving a zero degree contraction. MCP is a different story. That's the easy one. Not so with PIP. The fact that you have 15 degrees is a complete success in my opinion.
The sooner you can have NA or Xiaflex on a PIP the better the outcome.
