Dupytrens and T3
Good morning,
Thanks for adding me. I have Hashimoto's disease (auto-immune hypothyroidism), which is being managed. Last October I broke my right wrist very badly. I managed to heal it without having an operation. However, I did notice that I started to get nodules in my right palm and my GP confirmed that it was Dupytrens. I knew it was because my sister has it and has had several operations to try to straighten her fingers. I told my GP that I thought the break had triggered it. He said not, but my sister mentioned it to her consultant and he said that the break did trigger it and that I might only ever have nodules.
My question is, I started to include T3 (liothyronine) to my thyroid treatment mid January and I have noticed recently that the nodule size has reduced and is no longer painful to touch. Has anyone else who has thyroid disease noticed this? Is it possible that the Dupytrens will go into remission? I know that there is speculation that Dupytrens may be an auto-immune disease and that having 1 puts you at risk of others.
Any information would be gratefully received. Thank you.
Rita

Hi Rita
There are lots of people who report their DD improved once they started treatment for hypothyroidism, but I’m not aware of a specific link. DD is not really regarded as an autoimmune disorder, maybe endocrine, but a genetic link has been established. See more info here https://www.dupuytren-online.info/dupuyt...ontracture.html and possible link withhypothyroidism here https://dupuytrens.org/faq/what-other-co...-to-dupuytrens/
Best wishes SB
