hi im new

hi im new to this forum decided to join after doing a bit of research my GP as recently told me on monday the 28th of may this year that the lump in my right hand is in fact a dupuytren contracture
cutting a long story short i have reflex symthetic dystropy (rsd) also known as complex regional pain syndrome (crps) in the same hand arm and shoulder im in pain 24 hours a day 7 days a week im 30 years old and im on various medications because of the RSD/CRPS
what causes the dupuytren to get worse and how long does it take to get worse till it starts effecting the fingers to bend over
my middle finger is stiff but not bent over ive had the lump in the palm of my hand for oer a year now but lately its become very irratating and sore
hope to hear from someone soon

Welcome to the forum lisa

It sounds like you have a nodule in the hand from Dupuytren's Disease.

It's difficult to say how this will progress, if at all, as you are still quite young. Maybe there will be no further increase or changes to the nodule, or new nodules, for many years. But since you say the nodule has become irritating and sore, perhaps the disease is active and there will be changes.

Keep a photo log or record of your hand, maybe with monthly photo's, and also note any changes in the skin, new areas of hardness or lumps. Check the other hand too. That way you will get an idea of the rate of progression, if any.

There are a few treatment options, if needed, for early stages, check out the rest of this website.

Look after your hands - wear gloves and padding with many activities.

Best wishes

Re: hi im new

Hello,

Like you, I am new here too. For me, my Dupuytren's is progressing rather quickly, unfortunately. My right hand started first with puckered dents in the palm. I discovered them about 6 months ago, but just recently developed 4 pea size nodules in my left palm, which burn like no tomorrow. The left hand is aggressive and after a month, is beginning to pull at my middle finger, which also has a deep crease sinking inward where a ring would be. I have heard that it can be slow, or fast, it really depends on the severity, age, etc. I also have Ledderhose on the right foot, which is progressing rapidly as well. The only thing I can suggest is take notes & pictures of your condition, and monitor it. I have noticed that the more it progresses, the more pain I experience. If you feel more pain, pulling, sharp pains, etc, this (Could) be a sign it's progressing, atleast that is the way it has been for me, not to mention the visible changes that appear on the surface of the palm, fingers, etc. I am sorry you have this problem and I wish you nothing but the best. I hope I offered some help, Metzie.
