New victim of Dupuytren's & Ledderhose Disease

Hello everyone, I am a 41 year old male & I have been diagnosed with Dupuytren's Contracture & Ledderhose Disease. I have Dupuytren's in both hands, and Ledderhose on my right foot. My left hand has 4 pea size lumps that hurt (Mostly burn), and 4 deep dents on the right hand, and a grape sized lump on the underside of my arch on my right foot. I am depressed that I have gained a new problem, as I have many other health issues that has landed me on SSI & SSD. I hope to meet some nice people on here who might be able to help me through this, and if anyone who has questions about my condition, I would gladly answer them for you. I still have to see an Orthopedic Surgeon and Podiatrist, however, I can explain my symptoms and/or how fast it has progressed thus far. Feel free to drop me a line, sincerely, Metzie.

Re: New victim of Dupuytren's & Ledderhose Disease

Hi Metzie,

Believe me, we can all emphasize with what you may be feeling regarding your diagnosis. This is a very unpredictable and frustrating disease. My husband always tells me, though, "just be thankful you're not paralyzed." Yes, there's always something worse, but that doesn't help much with what you and many of us are currently experiencing. But it does help to know that you're not alone.

Blessings,
Sharon

PS - I have both DC and LD also.

Metzie,

Remember, this disease might not progress much more the rest of your life. Keep track of the progression if any and know what you need to do if it progresses. Try to do little harm to your arches. My feet have not got worse in 15 years.

Re: New victim of Dupuytren's & Ledderhose Disease

Welcome to the forum Metzie. Sorry to hear you have DD and LD.

Have a look around the rest of the site, there's lots of information. Things to do, things not to do, the various treatment options and stages.

As callie says it may not progress, or will progress slowly. If there are signs the condition is active then make friends if possible with physicians who will help you. A podiatrist probably will not help long term unless they are familiar with LD, but may provide orthotics in the mean time. An orthopaedic surgeon will not help at all, you need a Dupuytren's hand specialist. There are lists of clinics and doctors on the site, but also ask for specific recommendations here depending on where you are and what treatment, if any, you decide to consider.

Start by keeping a record with photo's of your feet, hands, and symptoms such as aches, tingles, pain, etc. Then you will have a progress record to discuss with the treating physician.

Come back after you have explored the site further.

Re: New victim of Dupuytren's & Ledderhose Disease

Thank you for the information, I did not know an Ortho Surgeon won't help me much. I can't drive far from where I live due to back and neck problems & numbness. I hope I can get help within 100 miles from home, otherwise, I may not get the right help I need. I am new to this site and don't know how it all works yet, but I'm trying. How do I find the right Doctor on here, or do I search the internet for a Dupuytren's Surgeon? I thank you for your information and help, I really appreciate it very much, Metzie

Re: New victim of Dupuytren's & Ledderhose Disease

Hi,
welcome when you open the page go to the top and click on "Treatment" and you will be able to see what options are available as well as where treatment is offerred. Life is Great make the most of it. Dupuytrens is not a death sentence. As a young child I remember a saying that was displayed on a table ,when I was waiting at the dentist." I complained because I had no shoes until I met a man who had no feet."
