NA PROCEDURE
Now I am really confused! Last year, I sent Dr. Badois photos of my pinky to schedule the NA procedure and he responded that my finger was not quite BENT enough yet for the procedure. Last month, I sent DR. EATON some updated photos and he said he COULD do the procedure and I proceeded to make plane arrangements for me and my husband, etc. My husband suggested that I send the same, updated photos to Dr. Badois to hear his response a year later. He said I STILL needed to wait a littlet longer before having the procedure done! So...two differing opinions from two different doctors! Dr. Badois is SO EXPERIENCED and that means so much but Dr. Eaton is a hand surgeon with an enormous amount of knowledge, etc. What would YOU do in my position? Cancel based on Badois...or trust Dr. Eaton's opinion?

Ms. Bryan,
I suggest you go to Dr. Eaton and get the Needle Aproneurotomy for your Dupuytren's Contracture. Of course, this up to you. God bless.

No Hurry
You might ask Eaton if he thinks your outcome would be any better if you have NA just as soon as it is possible. From what I've ascertained, the results from contractures less than 45 degrees (Phase 1) are the same. In other words, you can have it done any time before 45 degrees with the same results. I'll be next in line at some point here, but I'm only at about 25 degrees and have no problems using my hand. I'd say if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Wait.
Anyone in the know..... please correct me if I'm wrong on this.

Dr. Eaton
I would not hesitate at all to set up an appointment with the good Dr. Eaton. He has plenty of experience with many hands with bent fingers. My little finger was straightened out quite nicely by Dr. Eaton. I highly recommended him. You will not regret trusting your bent finger with Dr. Eaton. Wait no longer.

Timing of intervention and degree of difficulty
One can anticipate repeated NA procedures over time. Assume that an interval of two to four years is average, How often do you want an intervention? How many times do you want the procedure peformed? Side effects are minimal; but, complications can occur. Let's say you have an expected life-span of 50 years, and that repeated NA (barring other advancements,) is performed at 20 degrees, 30 degrees, 45 degrees contracture. Unless you are inconvenienced in daily activities, there is little or no physical benefit in early intervention. It may just increase the number of interventions. That said. both Dr. Eaton and Dr. Badois can help. Dr. Badois is, very likely, taking into consideration your best interest over the long haul. Dr. Eaton, very likely, recognizes that your contracture will be released by NA. So, how often do you want NA? That,IMO, is the choice. Remember, neither Doctor, nor anyone else, offers a cure. Both Doctors can offer real improvement for a limlited amount of time. You will very likely be at 20% again, or 45% if you wait. That is the choice: sooner and more often, or, later and less frequently. Somewhere between 30-45% seems the earliest and latest indications for conservative, non-neglectful intervention. It is your choice; both Doctors can help. Do you prefer more procedures or fewer procedures? More expense or less expense? Are you having significant problems using your hand at present? If you are confused and anxious about the contracture, accept the minor surgical risk and have NA. You can reconsider the matter in 2-4 years when the contracture re-occurs. Good luck/bonne chance!

Opionions NOT a Conflict!!!
(I posted this topic.) I got another response from Dr. Badois saying that I could PROCEED with the NA procedure from Dr. Eaton. He said he had just advised me to wait a little longer since I was just in stage one. That was all there was to it! :-) I am having the NA procedure July 22 by Dr. Eaton and will report on the outcome! :-)
