what~sq~s the method to measure?

To be able to accurately tell how much things have progressed how do doctors measure the degree of contracture other than eyeballing it???? Any ideas? What is stage 1, 2, 3, etc in terms of degrees? thanks

degree

I am not sure how one measures this. Someone else could tell you, but, no one does any surgery, or NA until you have a contacture , where you can't lay your hand flat on the table.

Degree fo Contracture

Steve,

The degree of contracture is measured with a protractor. The protractor is placed along side of the finger(s)and hand(s)then adjusted to where the finger(s)/hands) are contracted. This gives the degree of contracture on the proctor in degrees.

0-45 degrees: Stage 1
45-90 degrees: Stage 2
90-135 degrees: Stage 3
135-180 degrees: Stage 4

PIP + MCP Angle = Stage

RSD swelling on un-operated fingers

Six weeks after my op on my little finger and next finger, the hand and surprisingly, the OTHER fingers are swollen. Today the surgeon who did the op said i have RSD Reactive Sympathetic Dystrophy which affects 1 in 100 patients, where all the hand and adjacent fingers swell(not hugely but enough so I cannot close the hand into a fist). He said some injections and manipulation at the day surgery clinic will solve this. Also is accompanied by pains - not severe though. Anyone had RSD or the treatment he suggests? thanks
