DD and trauma
In the absence of a genetic predisposition for the malady, DD/DC, injuries would result in repairs not proliferation. A possible analagous situation would be high blood pressure and salt; a relationship may exist, but salt does not cause high blood pessure (it may not even contribute to it.) Prevailing thought: one has DD/DC and is unaware until X happens and the condition is manifested. If one never had an injury. the DD might have been a "lump" explained away as "holding a briefcase" or "using a tool," or, a "callous." It is a genetic condition that effects conective tissue in the palmar aponeurosis, plantar neurosis and the penile erectile tissue (Peyronnie's disease.) To date, no known cure exists; treatments are available. We are all learning together. Recently, Allopurinol has been mentioned as a related gout medication. Until the genome revals a genetic origen and remedy, we can only treat symptoms. Good luck.
