Family?

I visited with my brothers and sisters, 2 of them have this duputrin disease, and they felt my palms. Holy Ghost, they found a little lump just where the website says! No pain, thought it was just a callous or whatever. Now I can't sleep, I keep scratching and worrying. Oh my big bro has awful hands, and I'm sure worried.

Hey, what can I do? I mean, I'm only 52 'n all....

Phil,
Excuse me for saying so, but you sound like a worrier !

Only 52 ? So ? Let's face it, after 30, we don't really improve (at least not physically). The older we get, the more aches and ailments we find on our way.

But, that lump ...
That means that somewhere in the future, you MIGHT get some contraction, right ?
Just, that 'future' might be 1 year away, or 5, or 10, or 50.
So why worry now ?
Many people never got beyond first base ( oops, first stage ).
Cross that bridge when you get there.
Don't worry, be happy.

Hey Eddie,

I've got 2 hands, OK? So one starts to go knotty, you think I should take a raincheck on worry? I'm a musician, for Heaven's sake (guitar as you ask)

I can't sleep, I've got a splitting headache, I'm reading sites like there's no tomorrow. Jeez, the thing's already grown since yesterday I swear.

I'm too embarrassed to tell my boyfriend, he's got a thing about deformities.

What'll I do??!!

Phil,
I didn't mean to upset or offend you. If I did, I am sorry, it's maybe because english is not my native language, so I might not be expressing myself correctly.
But again, there is not much really you can do, except wait. At least until someone finds a real cure for this disease. And as far as I know ( and I have been reading about this thing for over 4 years ) there is nothing in sight yet.
I understand the guitar part, I played classical guitar myself for years (not professionally tho), and before that, other instruments, mainly piano.
I'm not saying this to worry you, but I can't play anymore, but then again I have Dupuytren's for over 20 years now.
You probably have read, each case if different. Maybe you know Dave Brubeck had (has?) DP, and he kept on playing the piano. I don't know what, if any, treatment he had tho.
Once more, try not to worry too much, chances are you will never get 'real' deformations.

Good luck to you.

First Stage

Hi New People, I also went to Dr. Eaton on May 21st. and May 24th..My left hand pinkie was at a 80% curvature..15 minutes later, it was at 30%...My right hand had pitts in the palm. could almost not lay hand flat on the table.. After Dr. Eaton snipped a few cords, I gained 5/8 of an inch in palm spread....I , like Alan , will be going back to Dr. Eaton....There is general anesthetic..a local...Basically no or very little pain at all... You can use hand right away,, except you are supposed to keep it iced for 36 hrs. because of swelling..I did not have any swelling...
COME ON PEOPLE....READ THE SITE AND LEARN THE IMFO...
WWW.HANDCENTER.ORG IT IS NOT A CURE....IT IS A TEMPORARY FIX....BUT, YOU HAVE NO SCARRING AND NO LONG TIME PAIN
OR GO TO ONE OF THE OTHER SITES THAT ARE RECOMMENDED AND WATCH THE VIDEOS. YOU CAN GET TO DR. EATON'S SITE ALSO..BY TYPING IN WWW.DUPUYTRENS.COM , I BELIEVE DR. EATON'S WEB SITE WILL SHOW UP THERE...PLEASE, DO NOT GET THE TRADITIONAL SURGERY..GO SEE THE DIFFERANCE IN THE PROCEDURES ON THE WEB SITES......HOPEFULLY, SOMEDAY THERE WILL BE A CURE OR WE WILL HAVE SOME MORE ANSWERS....BUT, THE N.A. IS A GOD SENT FOR NOW....

RE :First Stage

Hey Eddie,

No offense buddie, sorry if I overwanged there. Its like, whats going down here? OK I'll chill a bit. When I see all those poor people in Africa, and deformed and retard people here, well I just know I should get a perspective.

Its just like, well my boyfriend looks differently at me now, Im sure he thinks Ive got some transmittable disease, in our community HIV screams worry at you. This Dupuyterns isnt catching is it? Yesterday he wouldnt let me give him a hand job, I had to take it full penetration.

Its like risks you know, and I get worried. What should I do??

RE :First Stage

I only recently decided to visit the doctors with my right due to some pain under the little finger, the skin was also visibly taught immeadiately under the little finger. The doctor diagnosed DC in both hands and the right hand needed operating on.

I was shocked at first as I always thought it was plainly hard skin and the itching & pain was work related.

The lumps in both hand have been their since my early twenty's I am now 40 so am confused as to what will happen next. No finger have started retracting to my palms as yet.

You found the right place!

Simon,

If no finger has curled more than 30 degrees don't do anything as yet. Sounds like you have slow growing Dups. In any case, the only thing an uninformed surgeon will know to offer is surgery. Check out "State Of the Art" Dr. Eaton in these posts. Look at his web site before you let anyone perform anything on your hand.

Go slow

Simon:

Randy is correct -- don't take remedial action until you must. I've had nodules for about thirty years, with no contractions. If and when the time comes for action, I'll opt for NA, but until then, nothing.
