Dangerous?-whatever
It's obvious from the Phase II results that Collagenase works - the questions are, how well and what are the long-term effects.
I understand the reasons for the FDA approval process, but their timetable is measured in years or decades and, unfortunately, so is my life. In my opinion this timetable is way out of proportion to any real or possible risks associated with this use of Collagenase, as compared to the problems caused by the disease itself and the very real and known risks of surgery.
I could easily picture myself flying to Europe for a collagenase injection in a couple of years, while the FDA process grinds on endlessly over here. I hope they try to market it in Europe.
I don't see much risk in trying antioxidants or topical Vitamin E.

Dangerous?-whatever
What i think is dangerous is being disabled because of some freaking disease. And the medical industy having a very limited amount of information about the disease!!!! Not being able to use my hand in the future kind of scares me. If someone found something that worked for them, let me know. Yeah, sure if someone suggests drinking a bottle of rubbing alcohol cured them, i think i might pass. Get real!!! Hey, keep on posting the home remedies. None of the doctors "REALLY" know anything about the disease anyway. And surgery is the only so called form of treatment that is used in the medical industry. With only a limited ability to actually help all cases of dups. Possibly- even harming the individual more.

Oh yeah
I did forget to mention the needle apenwhateverme is called. That isnt even available in the US. But i could spend a lot of money and fly across the world to give it a try-then try to find a way to pay for that trip. And what about acupuncture- who knows? Like i say- these are basically someone elses home remedies they have tried, and possibly succeeded. Just like everything, someone has to be the first. Its called pioneering, but dont get me wrong-i dont think any crack pot idea is safe. Everything should always be done with caution and with the most info available.

acupuncture
I like hearing about others' remedies. Things that aid the liver to produce enzymes seem most interesting, including some herbs like milk thistle. When i was diagnosed, i altered what i eat and what i put on my hands. Most of us know to avoid collagen hand creams and aloe vera on DC. Speaking for myself, i have been eating those fruits (that you can't put in jello, cuz they have enzymes that break down protein): guava, pineapple, papaya, fig, kiwi. I avoid stretching and gripping. Was diagnosed 2.5 years ago, still have full use (knock on wood), of hands at this moment. When palms feel heated or itchy, i place a cold can of soda on the palms only, for a few seconds to 'calm the DC down'. As i believe that the DC is active and growing when it feels heated and/or itchy. These are just things i do for myself, some from research about liver function, some instinctively. Just thought I'd share.

Home remedies
I am a 45 year old Irishman and contracted Dupuytren's after a sporting injury one and a half years ago. I have been taking PABA, Milk Thistle, a good multivitamin and an alpha lipoic/acetyl carnitine combination. I also eat the recommended 5 portions of fruit/vegetables every day and avoid fatty foods. I (like most of my fellow countrymen) drink a fair amount of alcohol, but am a former pro sportsman and am very fit. The nodule on my right hand has decreased in size since I started the above treatment. Like most others, I have no scientific analysis or verification of this, but it's working - so far so good! Good luck to all sufferers...

Home remedies
Anyone interested can search Life extension: Lipoic acid, Acetyl Carnitine and will arrive at several sites that promote nutrition that combats aging and disease. I have no opinion or valid contribution to make other than the above information. I think Carmosine (sp?) is another ingredient suggested in improving "oxygenation."

What to use/what not to use
I am new to the forum (one previous post in another thread). Have dups in R hand (two nodules) but still functional. Thickening beginning in L hand (I'm a lefty). Large nodule on R foot (first noticed as a small nodule in 1992) and thickening beginning on L foot.
Is there any type of hand cream/lotion I should possibly avoid using? Also, is it possible that the "burning" sensation I feel in my R hand could be the dups worsening? I have severe osteoarthritis in my R thumb joint, but I feel the "burning" more toward the outside portion of my R hand. I have progressed from one to two nodules in my R hand in less than two years.
Any type of surgery, even NA, would be very risky for me because I have lymphedema in my right arm. Any kind of invasive treatment could put me at risk for infection.
Thanks for your comments.
