Is there a way to halt the progression??

I have just been diagnosed as having DD. There are only two 1cm lumps in the palm of my right hand, but they are sensitive and I can swear that they have doubled in size since first noticing it 2 months ago - thought they were callouses.
Looking at all the discussions in this forum as to what I can look forward to, does anyone have an idea whether there is any way at all to stop the growth or slow it down. My Surgeon told me to come see him again in 1 year when the growth has started to affect my fingers. The lumps appear to be on the index & ring finger tendon. can't believe that they can't do anything to prevent further deterioration... Any advice??

new to problem

I know you are afraid and I have been, because my hands and feet are both affected. Go slow and take all you read with a grain of salt.(old saying) there will be a cure or atleast something effective in the next 5 to 10 years or less. Less I hope! I had surgery and it did not go well. There was also an insurance problem and no communication with doctor and therapist. Other wise i think I would have been alright. People are leading most to N/A in Florida that maybe good but pricey and once you have surgery it is out of the question. If you are young meaning unger 40 or so don't be persuaded yet. I believe help will come before you can't function. I have a son of 30 who is showing the signs I am not telling him much as I was treated as if I had arthritis for 10 years. Please read and go slow.

No Clue

If there was something that worked to stop this it would be the hottest topic on the Forum. There 'aint. A couple of bumps don't mean you'll need medical intervention. But if you do, I have to say, as humbly as possible, most of us know how to deal with this thing far better than your surgeon. In fact, he probably doesn't have a clue about NA, which should be your *first* treatment option, not his knife. Hands and knives don't get along all that well:) Check out Eaton.

DUP ...new

Thanks for the support and info. One of the things that really confuse us in this day & age, is the fact that our governments can spend billions of $ on arms and machinery to maim & kill people... but funds for medical research and healing is always hard to come by.
I will personally be doing lots of research - here in South Africa we have the blessing of huge amounts of herbs and plants that are only now making their healing potentials known.... maybe a bit of funding in the right area with the right researchers may be in order at this time.
Seeing how many people have this affliction, will make it a prority to help find some cure or relief.... I do however suppose that when we look around at other people with MUCH worse afflictions and how they cope (Christopher Reeve?) we should be greatfull for the gift of life we have been granted and concentrate or slightly shift our way of thinking and living, to cope with this "minor" stumbling block.

I will surely keep checking the site and hopefully with more people having positive attitudes.... te solution may well just be round the corner.

NA for DC

Please watch out for mea culpa, and place more emphasis on the power of efficacy. Prima fasia in advancing NA is on the positive side, and lets move on with viva. Too much conundrum isn't good for the advancement of the NA procedure for DC/DD. I know that we have a number of cognoscente persons interested enough to move forward in promoting NA in the USA and other countries. Thanks to all who care enough to work for the advancement of NA doing their best. Have a great day!
