Limited information

I have followed the discussions here with interest, particularly regarding alternative treatments for Dupuytren's. Interestingly, I find little discussion, and essentially no personal examples, of the results of injections of nodules with triamcinolone acetonide. (I am familiar with Dr. Ketchum's site, and his article in the Journal of Hand Surgery). Such injections are infrequently and briefly mentioned as an alternative, particularly for those of us with nodules rather than contraction. I've seen no substantial discussion of the pros and cons of this procedure. I would like to know if others have additional insights, references, successes or failures to report. Thanks.

Kennalog injections

Interesting subject. I have called around to several ortho surgeons in my area asking if they give the injections. The standard answer I get is "the doctor does, but it is not something he does routinely". Having emailed people who have been treated successfully with kennalog, it is something I am going to pursue. In fact, I am traveling all the way to Kansas City from the East Coast. I have an appointment with Dr. Ketchum in October. I will try to report back. Will it help? I DON'T KNOW...but short of surgery or NA (I am in the early stages), I feel I will regret it if I do not.

Kennalog injections

I have now had two injection of Kennalog on one hand and one injection on the other. I believe Kennalog is the brand name for Triamcinolone acetonide in Canada. I have definitely experienced improvements in both hands. I had 6 nodules on one hand and 4 on the other however I did not yet have any contraction. Two nodules have disappeared and the others have sofened and retracted or flattened noticably. I notice a big improvement in flexabily and can stretch the palms without the discomfort I use to experience. To date,I have not experienced any side affects. Whether or not it is a cure all, it is too early to tell, but at the very least, in my case, I expect it to slow the disease down and/or keep it in check. I believe at least 3 injections are recommended so I can expect even more improvement.
Given the relatively low cost and the non invasive aspect of this treatment it is certainly worth a try. Good luck.
