open wound in palm

had surgery on 4/25 for DC was a large area ie whole hand still have a large area of open wound. surgeon say's "don't worry about it " physical therapist says "worry about it" and i am. am in the process of seeing a wound care specalist. so do consider who you see very hard, i was refured to this surgeon by one that did a fantastic job on my right hand felt cofortable but the comfort has changed to concern.could just be a little paraniod but whan you have stiches removed and are left with a large open wound i think i got a right to be.you may ask why didn't i use the same guy as before well easy to answer he's on the west coast i'm now on the east and figured hey NYC gotta be a good guy here.
My thumb healed nicely as did the upper part of my little finger but my palm sucks had a large die of around the area some prolly due to the hard skin in my hands ,am worried a hell seems worse than it was before surgery.
any one alse have a bad experiance and how did you deal with it.

Terry,
I'm not trying to give any comment on your whole situation, but I wanted to mention some thing about that open wound the surgeon left, it might not be something to really worry about.
This is a standard method ( called the McCash technique ), used by surgeons in certain cases, to avoid hematoma problems, if the cutting was rather extensive.
It was used when I had my surgery.
The wound normally closes after 4 to 6 weeks, requiring just normal wound care.
So, don't blame that surgeon for having left you with an open wound.
Good luck.

Terry,
My surgeon told me before going in that the open wound technique might be used. He told me that it usually has less complications for him. He said that it depended on the elasticity of my skin and how much material he had to remove. He ended up not using the open wound technique for me.

operation

had an operation for DC 16 days ago in NYC.... I had stitches though another doctor who I also consulted with told me he leaves the wound open..

after 5 days I had quite an infection which with the help of anti-biotics was cured, it seems..... the healing seems to be progressing well enough according to my surgeosn and ALSO my hand therapist.

I am a musician so I am very concerned as to the eventual outcome....
