I talked to the patent holder

I tracked the guy down and it seems reasonable but retin-a is a nasty drug to take with questionable efficacy...he cites three patients and the actual results are far from miraculous and well within the range of error of measurement if you think about measuring contracture degrees, etc... If you try it, let us know. His son is a practicing dermatologist in Florida and could prescribe it...look up a Dr. Parks in FL. The inventor is retired.

Radiation Therapy for Ledderhose disease

I recently found a "Pub Med" study by Strahlenther Onkol 2003, Dec. that indicated a radiation therapy that was completed on 25 patients from 1996 to 2003. The study was to measure disease progression after the radiation therapy. Prospective phase III studies were suppose to give further information. Does anyone have the results of the phase III studies. Please post.

literature

Gary, if you are still looking for a specfic Ledderhose forum please note that we have a Ledderhose section www.dupuytren-inline.info.

You asked for an update on a specific publication that appeared in 2003. Who was the author and what was the title? If it is "Radiation Therapy for Morbus Ledderhose—Indication and Clinical Results", then we might forward specific questions to Prof. Seegenschmiedt.

Ledderhose

Hi Jan
I have had six OS operations to my feet. One of those was a facia excision. Facia excision is the removal of the soft tissue area under the foot and a skin graft is placed over the removed area. I was able to have a good look at my exposed foot before the skin graft was placed over the residual area. It was pretty gruesome and the tendons were exposed - large pearl white bands. They are deap beneath the foot and are so easy to identify even for someone uneducated in these things. To suffer a surgical mishap in this area would IMHO would mean a totally inept surgeon.
Dr Lermusiaux said to me that NA on the foot soft tissue is the easiest/safest to perform.
I have never had a problem in these six operations - three different surgeons. However I've had two OS on my hand and both had complications.

Is there an alternative to plantar fibroma excision?

I can feel 3 plantar fibromas on the bottom of my foot. Can plantar fibromas be drained? Can something be done to shrink them?

alternative to surgery

You might have a look at www.dupuytren-online.info, including the "Other therapies" and the cryotherapy specifically. Cryotherapy is still experimental but might be an alternative.
