SE Michigan Surgeons
Does anyone reccomend any good surgeons in SE Michigan? I have Dupuytrens in my left pinkie and ring finger, knuckle pads, and plantar faciotis that was operated twice in left foot when I was young (18). I am now 40 I can live with the knuckle pads and know that operating on them has recurring risks. I've also become aware from this site that I am one of the "blessed" few to have a severe case of this (4%??). My father uncle and grandfather all had or have DD. Other research I've done shows this is genetic and early cases from Scotland called it Cleeland's ligament. Just so happens to be a mispelling of my last name??!! Most people I know whom have had surgery for DD do not offer glaring sucess stories. I'm noticing during exercise misalignment from left to right due to the DD contracture in my left hand which is also leading to left shoulder pain. Sure would like to know if someone could reccomend a GOOD Surgeon in SE Michigan that I could consult with.
Thank you for any help!!!

Doug,
I can't recommend a surgeon in your area but want to encourage you to investigate the needle aponevrotomy (N.A.) procedure if you haven't already because no surgeon in your area is likely to tell you about this simple non-surgical option which might be appropriate for at least part of your situation.
Below is a list of M.D.s in the U.S. that perform N.A. along with a brief description. Websites are listed and are your best source of information. PLEASE READ UP ON THIS BEFORE YOU CONSULT WITH ANY SURGEON!
Best of luck. ********************* LIST OF DOCTORS OFFERING NEEDLE APONEUROTOMY* TREATMENT FOR DUPUYTRENS CONTRACTURE IN U.S. (Updated 12/11/05) please let us know of any corrections or additions
FOR INTERNATIONAL DOCTORS PERFORMING N.A. see: http://perso.wanadoo.fr/f.badois-dupuytren/html/liste.html
*(N.A. is a minimally invasive outpatient procedure for Dupuytrens which effectively breaks the cords which cause contraction of the fingers, thereby releasing them. The procedure has been available in France for many years with an excellent safety record and was introduced in the U.S. in 2003 by Dr. Charles Eaton. Since then a number of other doctors have begun offering N.A. to their patients as an alternative to open hand surgery.
Drs. Eaton and Kline both have informative websites (see below). Dr. Eaton's site contains some information which is more technical, and Dr. Kline's own experience with Dupuytrens adds a personal touch.)
