choice

the information on this site is so confusing, i've opted to ignore it completely and just go and see my local hand surgeon in boston. i was hoping to get some free advice off this site. someone told me there was good information about NA. but it seems to be a mere arguement between opinionated people. i'm going the traditional route, the one that's been proven to be effective..surgery.

this is exciting

Ryan,

Have a look at www.handcenter.org that site will explain NA then make your own decision. Many of us have opted for NA because:

a) DC can possibly be accelerated by trauma (NA is less traumatic to the hand),

b)there is a long post-op recovery with surgery,

c)there is scaring with surgery...then if the DC returns more surgery scars on top of surgery scars and

d)with NA you do not have to go under general anesthetic.

There are more reasons but these are the basic ones.

Simply put, many of us feel that having surgery is like killing a fly with a hammer - over kill. The only way to know for sure if NA is for you is to email a picture of your hands to your NA doctor of choice then wait for a reply. The will be able to give you a idea if they are able to straighten your hands using the NA procedure.

Many of us see NA as a first line of defence and choose surgery only when NA is not appropriate, or no longer appropriate(after consultation with their NA practitioner).

are there other doctors that perform this procedure? do you have dupuytren's anon? if so, what have you had done? how old are you? thank you so much for this clarity. so is conventional surgery a scam? is it just for money? is it a conspiracy?

Back from Florida -- Results of NA on my hand

Dear Ryan,

Surgery is not a scam, it's an option, just not the only option. Read through the website, do your own research and make sure you understand the difference between both because surgery for some of DC cases (a lot of DC cases?) is overkill.

Good luck,

Anon
