dupuytren's contractures in my thumbs

I JUST REALIZED THAT I HAD THE DISEASE A FEW WEEKS AGO. IT COMES FROM MY FATHERS SIDE OF THE FAMILY. ALL MY AUNTS AND UNCLES HAVE IT IN SOME FORM OR FASHION. MY DAD HAD IT IN HIS HANDS,FEET,BACK AND NECK. I ALSO HAVE A COUSIN THAT IS THIRTEEN YEARS OLD THAT ALSO HAS IT IN HER HANDS. SHE IS THE EARIEST CASE OF IT IN OUR FAMILY. BUT NO ONE HAS IT IN THEIR THUMBS. I WAS JUST WANTING TO KNOW IF ANYONE ELSE HAD IT IN THEIR THUMBS.

Can trauma cause Dequervain's

Yes, though less common than in the pinkie and ring, the thumb is third on the list of fingers that Dups is attracted to. I have some Dups on my left thumb now, which is the had where I previously had OS. I told the dock: "missed a spot". Actually he hadn't. It appeared a few months after surgery. Fortunately for me the cord runs toward the first finger, rather than down toward the center of the palm. *Fortunate* in that this angle doesn't usually ever require medical intervention. Check where your cords are running.

Can trauma cause Dequervain's

Have Dup in both thumbs cords run up from lower palm on the out side of thumb and from thumb to first finger. Have had surgery on left thumb both areas and NA on right thumb which worked to best results were on area between finger and thumb as this area was able to be streached and make the cord snap. Nodule returned in left hand between thumb and finger very soon after surgery but was realeved a little with a cortizone shot when i had NA on right thumb.
thumb surgery came at same time as hand surgery on left and have to say was very hard to get total use back lots of work and worry but with time am pleased with results, lost a little feeling but if you saw my scars you would understand. Will say it is very unnerving to realise how dependant we are on our thumbs and until you actually loss the use don't think about it to much even knowing they are the most impotant part of the hand.
Good luck
