Dupuytrens & fish oil

I am diagnosed just today with Dupuytrens - haven't quite got the spelling off pat yet!!

My doctor dismissed the alcohol link, didn't say anything about glucosamine, which I have taken on & off for several years, but advised an increase in fish oil capsules.

Anyone have anything to comment on this advice?

thanx :-]>

Fish oil

Fish oil has been alledged to be responsible for cures for a thousand different ailments and most have proved to false. Smacks of the old snake oil salesman. Seriously though I for one haven't seen seen any studies on fish oil and Dups but am skeptical about any benefits. Perhaps you could try this product for a time.

Glucosamine/Condroitin (sp?)

Richard,

Since you mentioned Glucosamine can we assume you've already read here or elsewhere that many people believe it aggravates dupuytrens?

I'm new to this too, and no expert. But sifting back through lots of posting I gather quite a few people have observed an apparent link. Having something to do with collagen?

You might want to post a "new" topic mentioning glucosamine specifically in the heading, and maybe some participants with greater expertise will share in greater detail what they know about the subject?

Question for Ted

Hi Ted, you've mentioned that fish oil has been proven useless for many ailments. Could you please provide documentation for that claim or a list of the proven falsities?

forum

Richard & Susan,

no doubt you will soon realise that this forum is full of people who will offer a wide range of opinions and judgements on all things about which they consider themselves experts.

The real value is in hearing about individuals' personal experiences - not their opinions about others.

Good Luck in managing your conditions and use the material on this website as you would any unsubstantiated article in a magazine.

fish oil

BTW, forgot to add - I take Fish oil and it has had no apparent effect - although I suspect the Glucosamine did and I have stopped that.

Fish Oil

I've never heard of fish oil being recommended for DC. However it appears to have so many beneficial medical benefits that I'd like to know which of those Ted feels have been disproved, plus the source of those conclusions.

You~sq~re Right

I think the burden of proof is on the side making the claims, isn't it?

I agree, Ted should backup his claims.
