I had my 2nd operation for DP; first on my ring and little about 20 years ago, and the second 3 weeks ago on index PIP. Both were very successful, with 100% recovery on the first, and seems to be 100% on the recent operation. I think one of the reasons for the success was, and is, my agressive post op therepy. This is what I did, and my Doctor was so impressed with my progress, he suggested I post this.

Take a large white athletic sock, fill it with rice (uncooked). Heat in the microwave for 2 min max.Tie off the end. This provides a nice heating pad which will last a while. I usually use a SLIGHTLY damp washcloth to cover the sock. It will smell liked cooked rice the first time you use it (moisture in the rice)
You can squeeze, wrap it around, use for a hand rest, etc.
especially helpful in the morning to loosen stiffness. Works a lot better than can be explained. Also good for neck and sinus. Don't burn yourself. I spelled therepy wrong I guess.

I wrap my hands around a nice hot cup o' joe in the AM.

Loosens things up quite nicely.
