just diagnosed
I was just diagnosed also. I saw a board certified hand doctor for a lump in the palm of my right hand. I am in excellent health and have no other symptoms, and full use of my hands. Does this diagnosis mean that there will be progression, or is it possible that no other symptoms will ever develop? Since I do have the diagnosis and have read about NA, is it better to treat earlier instead of later, even if there is no symptom besides the lump?

Welcome
Hi Melinda, It is impossible to say if or when there will be progression as Dupuytrens is totally unpredictable. I had a lump for 4/5 years before I saw any change. At that point my little finger began to bend towards the palm. If this happens to you, the best way to tell when you need treatment is to place your hand flat on a table and try to lift the tip of the affected finger off the table. If you cannot, it is time to think of treatment. You can check this procedure on www.handcenter.org In the meantime, live your life and forget about the lump for now. Marjorie

Welcome
Melinda,
You may never need treatment. It may progress so slowly that it outlives you before it gives you any real problem. Age at diagnosis is a predictor of this, however. On average, the older you are, the slower it is likely to move. Educate yourself here and at

NA can't be performed until you have a distinct cord that can be cut and snapped. If a cord does develop, yes the sooner the better, but it will need to reach at least 15-20 degrees of contraction before NA can be done.
Above all, you've come to the right place. Don't Stress
