PINNING
Just sent pix to Dr Denkler this morning and he replied IMMEDIATELY ---like this afternoon-
What I was told is "I suggest pinning"then early therapy and follow up with cortisone injections...
I dont understand any of this
Has anyone heard of or had "pinning" done before?
I dont want to be the FIRST :>)
looking for some answers please- I need to go like end of october. Dr eaton will not take n=me now for whatever reason? maybe since I've been twice( at 6 month intervals) there for same hand he does not want statistics like mine on record ???
seems strange to me-

I'd rather not be the first either, but if Eaton is out of tricks and suggests upping the anti to Open Surgery, I'd talk at length to Denkler about this. As far as I know no mention of "pinning" has ever been mentioned here. Let us know what it is.

I am still hoping somebody will show up that has been thru this procedure and can give me details and positive feedback.
I'll try to phone Denkler today or tomorrow and get some details. I'll post when I know more. Stay tuned.

Pinning ??
Miriam - I haven't heard that term before, but it's possible he meant fusing a joint. Drs, Eaton and Zidel have recommended fusing my pinky PIP joint at a more usable angle. This involves insertion of a little piece of metal as I understand it. Drs. Zidel and Denkler both also recommended a skin graft. Meanwhile I'm ignoring the problem, but it is difficult - my pinky is well past a 100 degree bend. This unfortunately is surgery with a million possible complications, not the wonderful instant gratification of an NA session. I'm sure if you write back to Dr. Denkler he'll explain it. I found him very helpful and generous with free advice. Kristen

Yes I agree, Dr Denkler is very kind and gives free advice for which I am most greatful.
I am having second thought tho about gong to CA alone as I
donot know anyone in San Francisco. If I go see Dr Pess in NJ, Ihave a sister who cold help me out in NY, really close by.
So I'm now waiting to hear from Dr Pess and then I'll decide where I need to go.
In any case this is not going to be an in and out NA deal, unfortunately.
Why my right hand is not giving any trouble at all and my left so far has had to have 2 NA's is a real mystery to me.
