Splint

Regarding splints, I am convinced that for me, using a night splint is important. I had two traditional surgeries before NA and a hand splint was made for me by a hand physical therapist at the surgeon's instruction. I am an artist and my hands are often in a grasping position much of the day and I find that later in the day the pip joint in my pinkie seems to want to bend. But after a night in the brace, it seems straighter.

I showed the splint to DR. Denkler after NA and he said it would be good to use at night. He also said to do the flexion exercises previously prescribed.

The brace is a plastic thing that the therapist molded to fit the palm of my hand and pinkie finger just right. It is held on with a couple of strips of velcro. Its comfortable and can be adjusted. After the traditional surgery i quit using it after a few months but I plan on using it for a long time now because I really am convinced it helps maintain straightness. Three surgeries in 4 years - i will keep it up . I can't remember what it cost but I don't think it was a lot and worth it. Find a CHT and have Dr. Kline prescribe a brace/ splint and tell us how it works.

Successful treatment with NA and a question

Hi Diane,
Thanks for responding. The splints that Dr Kline gave me were too short, so I bought some longer ones (described in my previous message) I've had trouble getting a referral to a physical therapist, but will persue it more if my knuckles don't streighten out.
