What is the time after NA before another NA is required?
I am schedule to have NA on both of my hands in March. I have read with great interest that neither NA nor surgery is a cure for Dupuytrem's Disease and that it will re-occur. My left pinkie finger and my right ring finger are effective currently. I have elected to have Dt. Eaton do NA on both hands. I would like to see comments on the length of time NA worked before it was (is) required again.
Also, are there any NA folks out there who have had surgery after NA?

Family history helps
Dear Rusty,
There is no way to tell the rate at DC will reoccur because each case is different.
To gauge my own, I looked at older family members and their progression. My uncle had had 3 surgeries by the time he was 65 and his fingers curved back (only worse) within six months of each surgery, so he elected not to go under the knife any more. He was left without the use of his left hand and minimal use of the right.
Using this information (not scientific) I chose to believe that I would require NA at least once every two years if I was lucky - clearly DC is aggressive in at least one person in my family.
So far I have passed the three year mark with only a slight return of the curvature (about 10%) in my left pinkie. I consider this a major victory but am realistic that at any moment the disease may begin to progress again and I will require NA to straighten it.
Last week my brother (age 50) showed me the cords that have developed in his left hand since the summer and tells me his left shoulder is aching....seems he might have DC too (no nodules yet).
He was scared and I felt grateful to be able to tell him about NA with confidence. We even joked about being able to share the hotel/travel costs.
There is a silver lining in everything isn't there?

Reoccurrence
It's the first time in almost a year I came back to this Forum. Here is where I realized I had DP and found out about Dr. Badois in Paris. I went there, was extremely satisfied, but was told I have a very aggressive form. I had NA in January of 2004 and now my little finger on the left hand is starting to curve again.... and fast. Will make appointment with Dr. Eaton in Jupiter, FL since I live in FL. I have had nodules in my right hand also - for years - but thank goodness no cord (knock on wood). Just writing to say that progression must be very individual. Can anyone tell me what DR. Eaton charges? I paid Dr. Badois 180 Euros - a bit over $200 - but imagine American prices will be far higher. Good luck to all of you. Tee

NA
I also had Na last January. Dr. Eaton straighted my little finger. My little finger is still straight. I was charged $700 plus about $150 or so for a splint, as I recall. I do not know what Dr. Bourland charges. As I said, my experiance was with Dr. Eaton.

Time Interval of Re-occurance after NA
I would really like to hear from all you have had NA about reoccurance. Dr. Eaton set my little finger straight 14 months ago. It is still straight. How about you?

reoccurance
on the short side, my fingers resumed curling within a month of seeing dr eaton initially...two weeks the second time i went...but he said i was the extreme and have luckily found drugs that help stave off reoccurance if you look in the 'colchicine and alc' category on this board.

Ahhh so much more out there now
Hi Miriam,
In answer to your question...What would we do without Dr Eaton?...We would go to one of the other NA doctors around. :-) There is Dr. Zidel (Florida) and Dr Pess(New Jersey) who have both been Paris-trained. We also have Dr. Denkler(California) who has contacted Paris and will be heading off at the first mutually available time. Dr. Denkler has taken awarness of NA a step further by doing a taping of NA with Dr. Dean Edell which will be aired on tv in March of this year.
Isn't it wonderful how we now have treatment options?
