Cryosurgery VS RT for LD.
What happened to Cryosurgery for Ledderhose? I have LD on both feet for many years now. The nodule on my left foot is the size of large marble. I just noticed nudules in my right hand about a month ago. I guess this is Dupuytrens. I have large knuckles on my left hand and i cant make a close fist because of the pain. This may be arthritis for all i know. Im only 38 and i feel like im falling apart. I thought everyone was on the Cryo bandwagon for Ledderhose. Now everyone is talking RT. Also, what happened to Needle Aponevrotomy for Dupuytrens? What should i go with? I have BlueCross/BlueShield. I need help soon and im so confused
Thanks
Shane

Re: Cryosurgery VS RT for LD.
Hi Shane,
cryo for Ledderhose is still available and being used http://www.dupuytren-online.info/cryosurgery.html. Cryo often relieves pain and improves walking but the disease typically comes back after 2-3 years. Yet cryo can be repeated.
NA and radiotherapy are not competing treatments. NA is for bent fingers, radiotherapy for early (just nodule, finger still straight) stage of the disease. The competitor for NA is collagenase injection http://www.dupuytren-online.info/dupuytren_collagenase.html. Still unclear which is better. Time (and recurrence data) will tell.

Re: Cryosurgery VS RT for LD.
Thanks Wolfgang. From what your telling me, RT is a more permanent fix for Ledderhose than Cryo but Cryo is still being performed. Also, from what i read, RT is very expensive and insurance probably will not cover. Thats why some people on here have been traveling to Germany for the procedure. As far as my Dupuytrens goes my finger is not bent yet. I can feel the nodules though. I know its coming.

Re: Cryosurgery VS RT for LD.
Shane, Blue Cross Blue Shield covers RT for DD in most states, I am in Iowa and I was the first to have RT in Iowa. I had to appeal their first denial, but got it through. You should get a diagnosis and see if anyone in your state is doing Rt for your early DD in your hands. Lauri W

Re: Cryosurgery VS RT for LD.
it looks like the cost of RT in Minnesota is 19K...I am hoping my insurance will cover, otherwise I will be forced to fly to Germany. It's crazy!

Not crazy, just much cheaper. You get the treatment, an expert in RT of Ledderhose + 1 week of vacation and still save money ...

yes, I'd love to see Hamburg, but I hate seeing the U.S. go down in health care ruins! cureall

Re: RT was best for my Dupuytren ... !

Fully confirmed ! Prof. Seegenschmiedt is an absolute expert. He is doing an excellent job with regard to physical examination, exact documentation of all extremities (hand s and feet), careful planning and performance of the radiation treatment; he is not keen to treat any nodule ! A matter of fact, he is often reluctant to treat nodules, if there is no proof of progression ... and he is not treating in situations when the fingers are bending over 30° - So the "window" wher he acts is small - I am avery satisfied public known person which took a long way to visit Prof. Seegenschmiedt ! I am very happy that I can play my guitar professionally well !
