Ledderhose and Glucosomine
After having surgery on both hands during the last 2 years for Dupuytren's Disease, I've just noticed a lump the size of a pea on the arch of my left foot. I'm 69 and the Dupuytrens developed over a couple of decades, but speeded up over the last couple of years. The surgery, which included a skin graft to straighten the little finger on my right hand, has been successful in straightening my fingers, and giving me nearly full movement again. This development in my foot is very worrying as I love walking and I'm frightened that it will be crippling. The worry is not helpful, and is making me feel very depressed at the moment. I did notice that Glucosomine was mentioned as being associated with Ledderhose Disease, and as I have been taking 1500mg per day for years, thinking it is helping my joints, I'm wondering if anyone has any helpful comments on this?

Hi Patsy
I think there is an in vitro association between DD and Glucosamine and people have reported a link too. I would stop taking such a high dose of Glucosamine, personally I stopped completely and improved my diet in other areas. Keep on walking though, perhaps improve the sole cushioning and foot support. Hopefully at your age it will only develop slowly if at all, and use of orthotics if necessary to keep going, then the potential for RT I think should ease your worry and keep you walking for many years.
Best wishes

Hi Spanishbuddha
Thank you for that reassuring reply. I will certainly reduce my intake of Glucosamine and look at other alternatives.
