Insurance Dilemma
Hi all,
I am leaning toward getting RT for my hands and foot in Germany and have started correspondence with the Dr. S. Maddie stated in the "Getting RT on both feet at OU Oncology!!" thread that her Blue Cross policy does cover the treatment in Germany, just at a lower rate. My dilemma is whether or not I should approach CIGNA now for pre-approval or wait until after treatment. If now, how should I approach them and what information should I arm myself with? What has others' experiences been - both positive and negative - and if negative, is there something you would do differently? I'm afraid that I might cause a red flag if I alert them now but I'm also nervous about not getting pre-approval. Any advice?
Diane

Re: Insurance Dilemma
I would ask "GERMANY" for a cost proposal and thge same to a local or other national USA institution. Presenting your insuarance with these figures will tell them, that's much cheaper in Germany, but they may not pay your travel expenses ...
I would give it a try , .... Larry

Re: Insurance Dilemma
Does anybody know if Medicare pays for treatment in a foreign country? I can call them, but just wondered if someone already knew.
I'm thinking that Scripps is not putting in the right documentation. This is a new battle for me and I don't really know much about insurance billing.

Re: Insurance Dilemma
I'm wondering if there was a recent change with payments for RT. I've seen several posts alluding to denials, both Medicare and medical insurance plans, also the removal of RT as a treatment option on several prominent medical information websites. Just wondering. I hope not.

I was told today by OU that Medicare is not covering RT at all. I know from this forum that they did cover it in the past but seemed to have stopped.

Re: Insurance Dilemma
I'll follow through with Medicare and see if there is any chance of changing it. I talked with Scripps today and was told that I can appeal with Medicare. They have a window in which they can appeal and it is past for them but not for the patient. I'll try.
