LH and DC in Australia

Hi folks,

This is my 1st posting on the forum.

Are there any people on the forum with LH in Australia. I read alot of information within the US and Europe.
I am particaulary interested in the idea of RT.

About myself, I am a 48 yr old male, non smoker, social drinker, physicaly fit and health, I've worked with my hands all my life as an engineering tradesman.

I have serious DC in both hands, left hand operated on approx 8yrs ago (3 fingers) and about to be operated on again in Sept this year (5 fingers and the thumb web ). Right hand operated on approx 5yrs ago (3 fingers) with the DC coming back fairly quickly.

I have LD in both feet, left foot has a lump about the size of a pecan nut shell and several small lumps, now hurts as I walk (I cut the inner soles in my shoes to accomodate the lumps). The right foot has several pea size lumps at this stage and doesn't cause any pain to walk on it.

If this keeps up at this rate I won't be able to walk on my left foot in a couple of years, I lead a very active outdoor life.
My hand surgeon says he has yet to see a successful LD operation and considers an operation would only lead to a disaster.

I have been taking Glucosamine for over 15yrs for joint relief, for this Glucosamine is great.

I suppose the DC started before this time but I didn't relized then, the LH has probably been a concern for the last 4-5 years.

Just out of curiosity, does any one have very cold toes when they go to bed (need 3 -4 pairs of socks just to go to sleep)?.
During the day it is not a problem, I have had circulation tests done on my feet and they couldn't find any issues.

Looking forward to hearing from people in Australia.

Cheers,
John

Re: LH and DC in Australia

I live in the U.S.( sorry) but I have the same thing except I received my lumps in feet before my hands. The feet symptoms varies alot just like this disease from person to person. But YES you are NOT ALONE with the COLD FEET. But I thought mine was just from surgery. It didnt go well one grew back within 2-3 months from surgery bigger than the last one. Please keep in mind there is no cure but there are a couple of things they are doing to slow it down. I have a question for you did your hands in the beginning hurt, ache, go numb get fiery hot ?? I was just diagnosed with Dupuytrens 2 weeks ago You can see the lumps but no chords yet. Good Luck to you in your search for pain relief and suffering of any kind do to these diseases!!!!

Re: LH and DC in Australia

John, I've read there may be conflict with these related diseases (DC and Ledderhose) with glucosamine.
Read here for more info http://www.dupuytren-online.info/dupuytr..._therapies.html

John,
I have also read about the negative effects of glucosamine for Dupuytrens.. read about it. For your LD look into radiation therapy, I don't know what is available in your country, but I had RT in the U.S. and so far, it has stopped the progression of the LD in my foot (I had two marble size hard nodules...they are now much smaller and very soft). I also had RT on my left hand where I had multiple nodules, itching, burning and even had a very small cord running along the index finger....the cord is gone, the nodules are much smaller and softer and the itching and burning have stopped.

Luba, I really want to get in touch with you. I lost your email address as well as the email you sent about your last visit with Dr. T. I sent 3 emails to you through the secure email on this site but don't know if you got any of them. Please contact me via email or phone if you still have my contact info.
Thanks, Flora

Re: LH and DC in Australia

Luba, our current version of the forum software has a Private Messaging System. For reading your messages you need to login and then go to "Private Messages". You can set your account so that you automatically are informed by email when you have a private message (you won't get the message itself but a notification). To activate this feature you go into "My profile" and then "Settings" and tick the according box. A somewhat hidden feature but that's the way it is ...
