Recommendations?

Dear all,
my name is Joe Smith and I am new to this forum. I am researching therapies for both Ledderhose and Dupuytrens Disease.
I have Dupuytrens Disease in both hands, a rather mild case, since about 10 years (I am 61), and I am not currently treating it. About a year ago a nodule appeared along the arch of my left foot, and recently my second toe has contracted. So far I have been diagnosed with Morton's Neuroma and treated to no avail with orthotics, cortisone injections and physical therapies.
I strongly suspect I may instead have Ledderhose Disease in my left foot. I know this disease is rare but I can find no other explanation. I live in Western Massachusetts but have access to New York City and Boston Medical Centers. Would any of you have any recommendations for specialists in these locations?
Thank You, Sincerely, Joe

Re: Recommendations?

Hi Joe,
Welcome to the Forum. You will find a wealth of information both on Ledderhose and Dupuytren's on this Forum and many people willing to answer all your questions... You can use the Search feature to look into the subjects you are interested and then you can come back here with questions, many of us will answer.

This is a strange disease in that it is so different from one person to another.

On a personal note, I have both hands affected with DD and LD in my left foot, where I had two hard, marble size nodules. In Nov. 2009 I had Radiation therapy on my left hand and left foot. On my foot, the nodules shrunk and are almost 90% gone. I no longer have any indication of active disease on my foot and I am happy to say it has been in remission over two years. My left hand where I also had radiation shows signs of improvement, and the new nodules that have developed in my left hand are definitely outside the radiated area.

I would advise you look into Radiation therapy if the disease is in the early stages. Check out everything on this Forum about Radiation, Needle Aponeurotomy and Xiaflex. I am a believer that surgery should be the last option.

Best of luck to you,
LubaM.

Re: Recommendations?

Welcome Joe. I think you need to get an accurate diagnosis from an experienced physician - there are many reasons for lumps in the feet, not just Ledderhose, although if you have a toe contracted (which I think is quite rare) it does perhaps suggest Ledderhose. There's quite a few options for treatment but with Ledderhose the best option for early cases that are progressing does seem to be radiotherapy. Best wishes.

Interesting about the toe contracting...most people on this Forum mention nodules, don't remember many mentioning contracted toes, there would have to be cords present. In my case, I had two nodules that were growing and getting bigger, never developed cords on the bottom of my foot.
