Some help with getting started please

I have decided to try and find someone to do radiation therapy on my LD.

I saw Dr. Prabhakar Tripuraneni in CA listed on the clinics. If he is listed here does that mean he does this treatment and has experience with it? I am trying to figure out what exactly it means.

I called his office yesterday and he left me a voice mail saying he did not know of anyone who did this in AZ but I could look under radiation therapy and see if anyone does it. I checked and it looks like it is all associated with cancer.Would that be just as good or do I need someone who specialized in LD? Since I am about 5 years out from having cancer, will this increase my risk if getting it back?

He also said he would be more than happy to see me but he didn't know if he could treat me. Do I have to go all the way there just to see if he CAN treat me?

If I do get radiation therapy and it doesn't work can I still try other therapies afterward?

Sorry if I sound dumb, but I am new and also in a hurry to get something done because the pain is increasing and I am waking up with new knuckle pads. So this disease is somehow really active right now!
Thanks!

Re: Some help with getting started please

Q: If he is listed here does that mean he does this treatment and has experience with it?
A: We only list doctors/institutions that have experience, were recommended by at least one patient, did so far not get any negative comments, and agree to being listed.

Q: I checked and it looks like it is all associated with cancer. Would that be just as good or do I need someone who specialized in LD? Since I am about 5 years out from having cancer, will this increase my risk if getting it back?
A: Typically it is oncology departments who offer radiotherapy. To our knowledge there aren't any in the US who specialize on LD. That's different to Europe: the clinic in Essen actually has lots of experience with LD. If you have no insurance covering your treatment you might actually consider to go to Essen. Radiotherapy is much cheaper there.

Q: Does radiotherapy increase the risk of cancer?
A: Yes but only very slightly (see http://www.dupuytren-online.info/radioth...de_effects.html) and only in the treated area.

Q: He also said he would be more than happy to see me but he didn't know if he could treat me. Do I have to go all the way there just to see if he CAN treat me?
A: Probably yes.

Q: If I do get radiation therapy and it doesn't work can I still try other therapies afterward?
A: Yes. There is some discussion whether prior radiotherapy hampers surgery. There are different opinions of surgeons and I have't seen any definite proof,

Sorry if I sound dumb, but I am new and also in a hurry to get something done because the pain is increasing and I am waking up with new knuckle pads. So this disease is somehow really active right now!
A: Note that radiotherapy won't help against knuckle pads. It only slows down the nodule growth rate, sometimes even stopping it.
