Re: RT for DC in UK
Things may be looking better for UK patients.
I am about to complete my second series of RT and on Friday 11th February I had a chat with a representative of Xstrahl (formerly Gulmay Medical). They are the manufacturers of the RT machines used in the treatment of DC.
I was asked various questions about how I had managed to obtain treatment and the problems I had encountered in obtaining a referral etc, etc. I passed on the details and from what I was told, I believe that this company is going to actively promote the use of their machines to treat DC. I suggested that GP's and surgeons need to be educated that there is an alternative to NA and open hand surgery.
I would suggest that you look at www.xstrahl.com and possibly contact them for information about where you might obtain treatment on the NHS.

Re: NICE Initial Consultation Response on approval for RT for DC
I just got sort of an answer from my local hospital Radiotherapy department. In the UK.
They state that they don't think RT for DD/LD is funded by the local PCT on the NHS.
But even so they suggest I get a referral to a local oncology centre, as then the question of funding would be answered.
Does this make sense? I assumed that once the NICE guidance was approved then it became an NHS funded option, so the PCT would then also fund it.
Thanks for anyone from the UK who knows how the system works and can advise.
As per another thread I've had a first round for one hand in Germany and will probably get the second round done there too. But I have indications of DD in the other hand and also LD on a foot, and would be willing to drive this for a local result even if I don't need it at this time.

Re: PCT funding for NICE approved treatment
I don't know the answer to this, but I am happy to attempt to ask NICE?
It might also be useful for you to ask your PCT why they do or don't fund the treatment?

Is it depending whether the local RT facility is experienced or not ? Or would you have to go to LONDON or to another specialized RT facility ?

Re: NICE Initial Consultation Response on approval for RT for DC
Philip, yes please ask if you have a contact in NICE. As you suggest I will also ask the local PCT.
Larry, AFAIK we only have one experienced clinic in the UK doing RT on Dupuytrens, and maybe only 2 or 3 doing it at all.
