26 Months Post Xiaflex
In 2013, I posted my story and some pictures. It was good then, and still good news. In the archives will be that thread, but I wanted to post a new thread for those with a similar case as mine, and considering Xiaflex in 2015.
- Procedure was not painful, but the injection, as many have written, is done without pain blocker and that sucker hurts. - I was lucky to have insurance pay 75%. - I've been wearing my brace at nite, for all the 26 months, even business trips, vacation, always. - I think I was also fortunate to have a really protruding cord, that was not deep, rather sticking out big. I suspect my doc is very well skilled and was able to really focus the med right in there. - Golf and mountain biking are no problemo. I have the scar you'll see, but that doesn't bother me.
Take a look at my before/after pics.
Cheers!
Marty

Re: 26 Months Post Xiaflex
Congratulations on a successful Xiaflex procedure. Mine was done in July 2014 on my left hand and I, too, am quite pleased with the results. I can still hyperextend my hand by about 30 degrees. I believe success depends upon many factors, including doctors skill and experience with all DC procedures, how far the DC has progressed and how quickly/slowly the DC has progressed over time. I did have a couple of nodules pop up on my palm and middle finger several months after the procedure, I don't think there's any way to predict if that will happen. My right hand also has some large nodules and if they progress into DC I will probably have Xiaflex injections done on it too.

Re: 26 Months Post Xiaflex
thanks for posting. my hands are quite a bit worse than yours, especially the left hand. i had not been to the hand doc in over a year, but i went today. I didn't think my DC had worsened that much, but I guess you don't notice bcuz it's so gradual, bcuz my "measurements" were a lot worse today than my last appointment.
so i'm finally giving in and doing xiaflex next month. little nervous, but we shall see.....

Re: 26 Months Post Xiaflex
For me the worst part of the manipulation was the injections to numb my hand. Once numbed no pain and all I heard was a snapping type sound during the manipulation. After that a night splint was made to fit my hand.

Good for you! Tomorrow expect to have a straighter finger. Wear a splint and follow your doctors instructions & for rehab.
I had mine done last February. Xiaflex also eliminated the horrible scar tissue from surgery. The bio drug is a enzyme that breaks up collegen ( also scar tissue & DD) . Xiaflex is in another study to eliminate scar tissue for approval from the FDA.
Hope all goes well my doc used freeze spray on my hand for injections and manipulation. I heard nothing. Just closed my fingers and a second later my pinky finger was open. After 2 years it's was great !
Kind Regards Cherise
