Re: New to Dupuytrens
Hi Bergie,
I actually had full-hand radiation; everything was radiated but my fingertips, so it is done sometimes.

Re: New to Dupuytrens
Bergie,
I will be having all of my left palm treated by radiation by Scripps Clinic in La Jolla next week. My right palm will require only a couple of spots.
I fully recommend getting an appointment with Dr. Tripuraneni for an initial consultant. Just be aware that you will then need a second planning session (unless your insurance auto approves) before you can start the radiation treatments. In my case, since I am traveling from out of state, they will start the radiation treatments the day after the planning session.

Re: New to Dupuytrens
Thank you for the responses and other information. I know I still have a lot of reading to do around here. There is so much great information.
The hand surgeon I went to did mention I would have to wait until I had about a 30* contracture, but never brought up any other alternatives. I am interested in reading more and learning about the radiation treatment. Right now I have a couple of nodules and no contracture. I was diagnosed when I was 44 and I am still active in a few sports which I'm afraid if my fingers started contracting could affect that.
Is there a list of doctors on this site that are familiar with Dupuytrens? Or familiar with radiation therapy? I currently leave in North Jersey.
I was kind of going through this by myself so it is nice to have all of you to ask my questions to. I do like to try to learn as much as I can before I go to a doctor. I like to learn the pros and cons of different treatments as well as where the progression of the disease can lead.
Thanks again for the information.

Re: New to Dupuytrens
Bergie -
Have you checked out Dr. Gary Pess in New Jersey? Check out his phone number and address by clicking on the Needle Aponeuvrotomy button to the left. I had NA done 4 years ago by Dr. Eaton in Florida, and to date am very happy with the result.

For radiotherapy you might have a look at http://www.dupuytren-online.info/radiotherapy_clinics.html . For doctors generally familiar with Dupuytren's you might use http://www.dupuytren-online.info/NA_list_North_America.html but of ourse there are many more around.
The advice of your hand surgeon to wait until you have 30 deg contracture makes sense and is pretty much a standard advice for surgery. You might also consider NA as an initial alternative (I guess some members of this forum will advocate NA much stronger!). Wolfgang

Re: New to Dupuytrens
I took the survey but have been unable to view the results. It says the results are private!

Re: New to Dupuytrens
Bernie, I have an appointment at Scripps/LaJolla on April 28th to have my hand checked for possible RT. I had NA done for Stage I Dups and that worked out very well. I have a palm full of nodules - small, large, soft, hard.
I am interested in knowing what you found out. Please post an update.
